Frank Levelt had hired a top–notch private investigator with a single mission: locate Albert Preston.
“I need you to find him. I want every detail about Albert, Alexander, and Camilla. They can’t have gone far–they wouldn’t leave their daughter or granddaughter alone for this long!
“Understood, sir. Don’t worry, if he’s in Valentia, we’ll find him. I’ll assign a team to track him down. This shouldn’t take long, even if Catherine is protecting him.”
“Perfect. And have you managed to dig up anything on Marcus Bartz?”
“Yes, sir. If there’s a Bartz still alive, he’s in New York. But he’s more heavily protected than the president himself. He keeps a low profile, but we’ve managed to locate him.”
“Keep him under surveillance. I need to know his every move.”
“It will be done, sir.”
Frank climbed into his luxury car and instructed his driver, “Take me to the next address.”
Tes, sir. But isn’t this the-?”
“Exactly. I need to speak with them all. If a Bartz is alive, we can’t rest easy. I know he’s biding his time, waiting for the right moment to strike back. It’s time to act.”
Just as Catherine had suspected, Frank Levett had played a key role in orchestrating the massacre of the Bartz family.
Francis Bartz had taken out a substantial loan from a group of businessmen to secure control of Bartz Group. The loan was meant to demonstrate his financial stability and ability to lead the business.
In return, Francis Bartz agreed to do favors for the mafia. Some of the family’s companies were to be used as fronts for smuggling drugs and other illicit goods.
When Peter Bartz discovered the scheme, he confronted Frank Levett, creating a rift that would change everything. Peter threatened to expose Frank and the white–collar criminals backing the operation. Though his son had made a grave mistake, Peter was determined to extract him from the mess. What he hadn’t considered was the number of high–society families implicated–families who couldn’t afford for the truth to come out.
Frank Levett decided Peter had to be eliminated. But others in the group feared that Peter’s sons would seek revenge, so they resolved to leave no loose ends.
On March 19, Father’s Day, the entire Bartz family was gathered together when an armed commando stormed the estate. They opened fire indiscriminately, slaughtering men, women, the elderly, and children alike. It was a scene of absolute terror–no one was meant to survive. Anyone still breathing was given a coup de grâce on the spot.
And yet, Marcus Bartz had somehow survived.

“How the hell did that bastard live?” Frank thought angrily.
“Someone must have helped him! They say if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself,” Frank muttered, reviewing the report and photos of Marcus and Mary Preston.

Theodore Bennett, Frank’s long–time assistant, knew the story all too well. He had even overseen the armed commando that carried out the massacre. Theodore understood the implications of Frank’s words perfectly.
“What do you want to do, sir?” Theodore asked hesitantly.
