After Peter’s long conversation with Albert, they returned to the sitting room where Catherine and Leonard were waiting. Peter excused himself, saying lie was tired and needed to rest, adding that Mary was already asleep and he wanted to join her. 

When he entered their bedroom, he found that Mary lind changed into a nightgown and was standing on the balcony. 

“Mary?” Peter called, noticing the empty bed. 

“I’m here!” came her cheerful voice from the balcony. 

“Here, where?” Peter teased, walking toward the balcony with the intention of surprising her. 

“Here, love!” Mary replied playfully. 

Peter approached silently, and when he reached her, he wrapped his arms around her from behind, making her jump. 

“Peter! You nearly gave me a heart attack!” she exclaimed, startled. 

“My love, I thought you were asleep.” 

“No, I woke up a little while ago. I looked for you, but you weren’t here, and then I couldn’t fall back asleep,” Mary said, her gaze fixed on the moonlit sky. 

Peter bent down and kissed her cheek gently. 

“Well, now I’m here, and I can think of a few ways to help you get back to sleep…” Peter said, his tone laced with mischief. 

“Peter, someone might hear us… 

“Then we’ll be quiet…” 

Mary blushed furiously, her heart racing at Peter’s suggestion. Since starting her relationship with him, she had discovered a side of herself she never knew existed. While she had been attracted to Maximus during their marriage, the desire she felt for Peter was on a completely different level. Peter had taught her to explore her body and the pleasures of intimacy things she had never experienced in her previous marriage.

“Well, he gave us his blessing to get married. What do you think about that?” 

“Wow! My grandpa must really like you!” 

“Of course! I’m irresistible, after all.” 

“Peter!” Mary scolded, laughing. 

“So, what do you think about us getting married?” 

“I want to be your wife! I want to marry you, Peter!” 

“Really?” Peter asked, easily turning her around to face him. 

“Yes! But I don’t want a big, flashy wedding plastered across the society pages. I want something simple, just with our family and close friends. What do you think?” 

“I think you’ll be the most beautiful bride Galea has ever seen!” 

“When we get back from Grandma’s birthday, we should start planning it. What do you think?” Mary said confidently. 

“Absolutely. Everything will be just as you want it. Just don’t make me wear a light–colored suit–I hate them!” Peter joked, a grin spreading across his face. 

The conversation kept them engaged, and before they realized it, it was already 11 p.m. 

“Let’s head inside. It’s getting chilly, and I don’t want you catching a cold,” Peter said, his tone serious. 

The room Peter and Mary shared was just a few doors down from the one Maximus had used when they were married. Leopold had already moved Mary’s belongings to Peter’s room, leaving the old one vacant for any potential guests. 

As they entered the bedroom, Peter, walking behind Mary, gently grabbed her by the waist and began kissing her neck. She immediately felt a wave of excitement as he turned her around to face him and kissed her passionately. 

“You have no idea how much I’ve been longing for this. I think ever since we left home, I’ve been waiting to hold you like this. Mary… I need to feel you, your lips, your body. I need you,” Peter whispered. sensually in her ear. 

Mary responded by kissing him deeply, standing on her tiptoes to reach him. Peter noticed and sat on the edge of the bed, pulling her onto his lap as she wrapped her legs around his waist.
