As soon as Maximus returned to his bedroom and was finally beginning to drift off to sleep, the sound of his phone abruptly pulled him from his dreams. 

“Hello?” 

“Mr. Palmer, it’s Joseph. I found what you asked for. I’m sending over everything I could dig up about 

Marcus Bartz.” 

“Got it. But couldn’t this have waited a few hours?” 

“I think you should review the report now. You have a meeting with Mr. Bartz tomorrow, and you need to know as much as possible about him and his family 

“Fine. I’ll check it out. Is the file encrypted?” 

“That’s correct.” 

Maximus hung up, got out of bed, and went to his study. He opened his laptop, checked his email, and downloaded the file. It wasn’t large but contained several pages. 

As he began reading, Maximus realized how little attention he had ever paid to Marcus’s personal life. According to the report, Bartz had recently purchased a mansion in Westhaven. He was married and had two children. This confirmed that Marcus was already in Valentia, which meant tomorrow’s visit wasn’t just a courtesy call–he was likely coming to claim his place on the board. 

Maximus let out a long sigh and muttered to himself, “Tomorrow’s going to be a long day. As soon as Alexia finds out about this, the boardroom will turn into a battlefield.”
