Chapter 0155
[After Albert Preston’s death]
After hanging up with his father, Peter got into his car and headed home. Earlier that day, he had visited Valeria but had decided not to bring Mary along, worried the trip would feel too long for her. They had visited her gynecologist, where he learned the wonderful news that they were expecting a baby girl. Overjoyed, he had taken her home before continuing to Valeria for the monthly shareholder meeting, where he represented both his shares and those of Barz
After the meeting, he left quickly, unable to say goodbye to his father, who was still in discussions with Maximus. Instead, Peter had called him while walking to the parking lot.
Driving back, his mind began to wander, For some strange reason, he started reminiscing about his life, as if he were watching scenes from it play out in third person. The memories were so vivid that he felt a lump form in his throat.
Peter had been through so much before finally finding peace with Mary. He considered himself lucky- his fear of living had vanished, and the resentment he once harbored toward his father and brother was gone. The thought of reconciling with his brother, as his father had suggested, crossed his mind. However, the situation was far more complicated now.
Suddenly, one memory stood out: the day everything changed.
[St. Regis Hotel, Eterna]
Peter was dressed elegantly in a black tuxedo, and beside him was the stunning Mary. She looked breathtaking, more beautiful than ever. As they walked hand in hand, Peter touched the pocket of his jacket, feeling the small box hidden there, and smiled,
The evening passed uneventfully, at least until Maximus danced with their grandmother. Peter, meanwhile, had taken Mary to the dance floor. As they moved together, Peter’s eyes wandered and landed on a pair of long, shapely legs in a seductive dress. The red–haired woman was Katherine Ivanoff.
Katherine and Peter had maintained a strictly physical consensual relationship for years. As the music ended, Peter excused himself, claiming he needed to use the restroom. Instead of returning to Mary, he left the hotel and ended up at his apartment with Katherine. There, he lost himself in her curves and that fiery red hair that always drove him wild.
The next morning, Peter woke up slowly, disoriented. Catherine had already gotten up and gone to the kitchen for water. As she passed through the living room, she spotted a small black box on the floor something that had fallen from Peter’s pocket in their haste the night before.
She brought the box to him, curiosity gleaming in her eyes. Peter’s expression darkened as he realized what it was. He had planned to propose to Mary last night. Panic set in as he remembered leaving her behind at the hotel. It was 5:00 am–far too late. He knew she wouldn’t still be there..
Peter assumed she’d gone to their grandmother’s place, but he hadn’t anticipated that Maximus had already intervened. Mary had spent the night with Maximus, and by morning, she had accepted his marriage proposal.

Katherine studied Peter’s expression and asked, “Who’s this for? Clearly not for me.”
“It’s for the woman of my life. And no, it’s not you,” Peter replied coldly.
She pouted dramatically. “Ha! So, you’ve finally found someone who can tame you, Peter? That’s hard to believe. But hey, it might be worth a shot.”
“She’s not taming me. She completes me. She’s everything I’m not, and I’m in love with her. I want a life with her.”
“Well, well! You’ve left me speechless. So, is this our last time?”
“You can bet on it. I want a real relationship, and in the future, I’d like to start a family with her.”
“Wow. You’ve truly surprised me. Well, good luck, then. But since this is our last time…”
“Yes, we might as well make the most of it. Once I return to Galea, I’m cutting ties with all the women I’ve been seeing. That includes you.

“What a shame. I was starting to fall for this body of yours. So perfect…”
Peter blushed, feeling embarrassed. Katherine always had a way of flustering him. If only she had been single, he might have considered a future with her. But Katherine was married to a prominent businessman in St. Petersburg, making their relationship impossible.
Smiling at the memory of Katherine, Peter reflected on how their paths had diverged. He’d heard she eventually divorced her husband and embarked on a world tour, but by then, he had Mary. She was his everything, and he had no interest in anyone else. When Katherine reached out to him, he had to reject her. Though tempted for a moment, he couldn’t abandon Mary for a fleeting love from his past.
