Chapter 0184
Chapter 0184
Marcus Bartz, after having lunch with Valerie, went to his study and sat behind the luxurious marble desk. He retrieved the briefcase Frederick had handed him upon his arrival in Italy from the safe. After staring at it for several minutes, he finally spoke:
“Peter, I know that one day I’ll get my revenge on the Levetts for what they did to you. I truly hope you can forgive me, but if your brother and his children are involved in any way, they’ll pay dearly too–for everything they did to you, to me, and to Mary.”
[The past, Galea]
Leonardo and Maximus were about to leave Peter’s house, unable to reach any agreement with Marcus Bartz. Suddenly, the doorbell rang. It was Frank Levett and Alexia Levett, accompanied by a well–known politician from Galea. The politician had come with the express intention of revoking the authority Peter had signed over.
Agnes glanced nervously at Marcus, who abruptly changed his expression. His gaze turned cold and irritated. He gestured for them to come in and talk.
Once inside, the Levetts‘ guest introduced himself and told Marcus he had the power to overturn any decision made by the deceased. Marcus’s anger flared. In just a moment, his old friend and brother had gone from being Peter to simply “the deceased.” His patience snapped, and he turned on Maximus.
“You bastard! You can’t even respect your brother’s dying wishes!”
Before Maximus could react, Marcus’s fist connected hard with his jaw. Instinctively, Maximus retaliated, lunging at Marcus.
As chaos erupted in the living room, Alexia seized the opportunity to look for Mary. After snooping around a few roorns, she found her curled up on the large bed in the master bedroom, her hands covering her ears.
Alexia knew no one would be looking for her. Last she’d heard, her grandfather and Marcus were reviewing the order to revoke Peter’s authority. The housekeeper was busy with Catherine, and no one else seemed to be inside. Confident, Alexia approached Mary.
“Mary?” she said in a calm, soothing voice.
Mary lifted her head and saw Alexia standing there, het large belly unmistakable. The sight sent a pang through her chest as she realized that was Maximus’s child. Alexia’s pregnancy was undeniable now.
“You shouldn’t be here!” Mary exclaimed, sitting up.
She naively assumed Alexia had come to offer condolences, but that wasn’t the case. Alexia’s intentions were entirely different from what Mary had imagined.

“Mary, I’m so sorry for your loss,” Alexia said, her tone dripping with false sympathy. “But as you see, my future family is dealing with far too many problems thanks to Marcus Bartz. I really don’t think they’ll take good care of you. You should stop playing the victim and leave for good.”
Mary stared at her in shock. This woman spoke as if she owned everything that belonged to the Palmer family. But she was wrong. This was Peter’s house, not hers. That realization gave Mary the courage to

“Mrs. Levett, this is my house. It belonged to the man who was supposed to be my husband. The baby I’m carrying is his. So, any property that belonged to Peter Palmer now belongs to my child. You have no right to come here and spout nonsense. If you have nothing else to say, I suggest you leave my immediately. As Mr. Bartz said, no Levett is welcome here.”
