After dropping his mother off at a hotel in central Galeh, Leonardo drove back to Peter’s house, gripping the wheel tightly as the guilt and frustration churned inside him. It was past 10:00 p.m., but he was determined to fix things. He still couldn’t understand how everything had spiraled out of control, how Frank Levett had inserted himself into their family matters. If nothing else, Leonardo would try to make amends, especially with Mary, whom they had completely overlooked in their chaotic grief.
When he arrived at Peter’s house, the property was eerily dark. He parked and rang the doorbell. A familiar voice answered through the intercom.
“Yes?”
“Agnes, it’s me–Leonardo Palmer. I need to speak with Mary. May I come in? I’m alone.”
ог
After a long sigh, the gate buzzed open. Leonardo drove up the driveway, where Agnes stood waiting at the entrance, her expression weary.
“Agnes, I know Marcus ordered us to leave, but I have to speak with Mary. We’ve made a mess of this, and we never asked her what she wanted. She’s the most important person in all of this.”
Agnes hesitated, looking down as if searching for the right words.
“Sir… I don’t know how to say this, but no one is here anymore. Ma’am left shortly after you all did. Then, Mr. Bartz gathered his things and left as well. I don’t know where they’ve gone.”
Leonardo’s face fell. “What do you mean? Mary left? On her own? Where did she go?”
“I’m sorry, sir. She was very distressed. Mr. Bartz had people searching for her, but she must have slipped away. When he returned, he said she was safe and that he would catch up to her later. But… I don’t know where.” Agnes’s voice cracked, and her eyes filled with tears. “I didn’t even get to say goodbye.”
Leonardo was stunned, his mind racing with the implications. He got back into his car, feeling helpless. As he drove aimlessly through the dark streets of Galea, he muttered, “Where did you go, Mary? Why did you leave like this?”
Leonardo couldn’t keep this to himself. He dialed Maximus’s number, his frustration bubbling over.
“Maximus, have you taken care of your injuries?”
“Yes, Father. What’s wrong now?‘
“I just came from Peter’s house. There’s no one there.
“What do you mean, no one’s there?”
“I spoke to Agnes. She told me Mary ran off shortly after we left. Bartz tried to find her but failed, and now he’s gone too.”
“She’s in danger!” Maximus’s voice rose, barely concealing his panic. “I told you we should’ve gone back for her!”
“Calm yourself, Maximus. She’s pregnant, and you getting worked up won’t help her. Agnes said Bartz

claimed she was safe, but I’m not so sure. We need to find her.”
“I can track her phone if it’s still active. Do you have her number?”
“Yes, I’ll send it to you. Do it quickly–this isn’t the time for hesitation.”
Maximus contacted Matthew, who immediately got to work. Within minutes, Matthew had pinpointed Mary’s phone at the Galea Airport.
“Mr. Maximus, her phone signal places her at the airport. It seems she’s trying to leave.”
Maximus jumped to his feet, his heart racing.
Alexia stirred awake, hearing Maximus pacing and muttering to himself. She sat up, her seven–months- pregnant belly heavy against her as she called out to him.
“Maximus? What’s going on?”
“Mary’s at the airport. I’m going to get her.”
“You’re not serious!” Alexia snapped. “Look at yourself–you’re in no condition to be running around after your ex–wife. Send Matthew or wait until morning!”
“Alexia, stay out of this. You shouldn’t even be here getting on a plane in your condition was reckless. Think about the baby!!
“I’m your wife! It’s my duty to be here!” Alexia’s voice cracked, more from anger than sorrow. “Or does she still matter more to you than I do?”
Maximus stared at her, his patience wearing thin. “Mary matters because she carries my brother’s child
-the only piece of Peter we have left. My grandmother deserves to see her great–grandchild. You, Alexia, need to think about our baby and stay here!”
Before Alexia could respond, Maximus stormed out, leaving her shouting his name.
Maximus met Matthew at the airport, both determined to find Mary. They combed through the terminals, following the signal from her phone, but the trail grew cold.
“Let’s check the surveillance footage,” Matthew suggested.
At the control room, they were joined by Leonardo, who had arrived moments earlier. Together, they poured over the tapes, following Mary’s movements step by step.
But they were too late. The footage showed her boarding a plane hours ago.
“Where was the plane headed?” Maximus demanded.
