Chapter 0211
Marcus had to send a message to Camille, letting her know that Valerie had had a bit too much to drink and wasn’t in any condition to go home. Naturally, he didn’t mention What had happened between them. He promised they’d be there carly in the morning to pick up Serenity since they were planning to go out.
Camille read the message and silently thanked all her suspicions. Of course, they’d done what they’d done–there was no way she believed that excuse. Her reply was simple
“Alright, Mr. Bartz. Don’t worry about it. Serene’s already asleep, and I’ll stay with her tonight.”
Meanwhile, Marcus sat on the bed, watching Valerie sleep peacefully beside him. He reassured himself that what they’d done wasn’t wrong. They had both wanted it, even ifheither had said it aloud. In that moment, Marcus made a decision: no matter what it took, he was going to be part of this woman’s life. What had happened wasn’t just a fleeting encounter he wanted something lasting, just like he was already a part of Serenity’s life.
“My friend… forgive me. I know she was the love of your life, but… I don’t know what’s happening to me. I feel drawn to her. I know you might not approve, but… His thoughts trailed off as Valerie began to stir, slowly waking up. She sat up, and her eyes landed on Marcus, sitting shirtless on the bed. Her first instinct was to up to cover herself.
“Marcus, I have to go. My daughter is waiting for me!” she said in a panic.

“Don’t worry,” Marcus replied calmly. “I let Camille know you weren’t feeling well, and I told her we’d pick up Serenity in the morning.”
‘Marcus, it’s just that… I… ahhh… I don’t know what to say, Valerie stammered, her embarrassment clear as she clutched the sheet closer to her chest.
“Valerie,” Marcus said, his voice steady. “We’re both adults, and what happened here was something we both wanted. I don’t regret it. Do you understand?”
He moved closer, gently gripping her shoulders and looking directly into her eyes.
“Marcus… it’s just…”
Her nervous words were silenced as Marcus kissed her, cupping the back of her neck tenderly. She wanted to resist, but the overwhelming sensation of his lips on hers took over. Once again, she let herself go. That night, there was too much to express, and none of it could be said with words.
The next morning, Valerie woke up to find that Marcus wasn’t in bed. She felt groggy and disoriented, her mind spinning with questions about what would happen next. Part of her whispered that she should give herself a chance at happiness, while another reminded her of the promise she’d made to Peter: to never fall in love again. She was lost in her thoughts when Marcus walked back into the room, wearing only a battirobe. The sight of him made her stomach flutter, memories of the night before flooding back.
Marcus sat on the edge of the bed, leaned in, and pressed a soft kiss to her forehead.
“Come on, let’s have breakfast. We need to pick up Serenity for our trip,” he said, his tone warm and casual.
Valerie clutched the sheet–tighter around her body. Even just catching a whiff of his scent made her skin tingle.
“Okay, but… I don’t have anything else to wear except the clothes I left in the sitting room.”
