Alexia arrived at her office looking surprisingly relaxed. He assistant hadn’t seen that expression in a long time. Alexia was almost always in a bad mood, and even her out today was different. Narcissa couldn’t yet figure out what Alexia was planning, but if anyone knew her well, It was her. Narcissa had been privy to the darkest of Alexia’s secrets. At 60, she was well past the age of retirement, but Alexla stubbornly refused to let her go, so Narcissa remained by her side.
“Alexia, my dear, do you have a meeting I’m not aware of? Narcissa asked curiously.
“Why do you ask, Narcissa?” Alexia responded as she tooker seat.
“Well, you look radiant today!”
“Nothing special, just a meeting with the director of finance.”
“That man is very handsome, but he’s married, Alexia. Don’t get yourself into unnecessary trouble.”
“Relax, Narcissa. It’s just a meeting. I just want to see how far that man is willing to go,” Alexia replied with a faintly malicious smile.
in an attempt to dissuade her boss, Narcissa added, “I hear whispers in the halls that he always eats lunch with his wife in his office. She comes every day at the same time–3:00 p.m. sharp. He goes down to meet her, they eat together, and then he walks her back to her car. How I wish Maximus were like that with you!”
“Maximus stopped being like that after Laura was born. That stupid brat ruined my marriage,” Alexia said angrily. “But she’s your daughter!” Narcissa said with a hint of pity
“She’s the reason Maximus and I fight constantly!”
“Don’t blame the girl for your recklessness. You didn’t ever get the guy’s name that night.”
“Enough! Don’t ruin my good mood with this nonsense!”
Alexia had written Marcus an email after their elevator encounter, but their meeting wouldn’t be until later in the afternoon. This gave her time to step out, refresh herself, and make sure she looked and felt attractive for the man all the women in the company were talking about.
Marcus had planned to leave the office early that day. He asked Valerie to wait for him in his office after lunch, assuring her it would be a quick meeting with Alexia before they could head home together. Valerie, with no other option, settled into Marcus’s office. After eating, she entertained herself by scrolling through her phone and skimming a few books from the neatly arranged shelves.
It was undeniable–Marcus had a consistent style for his office decor. The same furniture, the same books, the same color palette. He claimed it helped him feel comfortable. This office bore no trace of what had once been Alexia’s space; even the flooring had been replaced with black marble imported from Hesperia
As Valerie sat in the chair opposite Marcus’s desk, a female silhouette approached her. Before she could rise or move, Alexia positioned herself directly in front of her.
“Well, well, what has the wind blown in today?” Alexia said with a sarcastic tone.
“Alexia Levett, let me stand up,” Valerie replied sternly.
“So, you come here every day to see your husband? Are you that afraid someone might snatch him away from you?
