Valerie inhaled deeply, trying to suppress the urge to lash out at the woman tormenting her.
“Valerie, say something! Aren’t you going to speak? Remember how Maximus ultimately chose me? You were nothing more than a placeholder. And now, no one even knows you were his first wife. Everyone knows I am, and will always be, the love of his life.”
“You’re so certain of that, yet you came here to rub it in my face. Why?”
“Actually, I came to check out your husband’s office. I have to admit, he’s a Greek god of a man. Many of us would dream of having someone like him. Well, some dream, while others act,” Alexia said with a malicious smile.
Alexia didn’t see it coming. Valerie spat directly in her face, then grabbed her long wavy hair, yanking her away from the chair’s armrest and finally standing up.
“Listen, Alexia, I’ve been very patient with you. But it’s clear you have no idea how to behave. If that’s the case, I’ll teach you,” Valerie said, gripping her hair tightly.
“You witch! Let me go! I’ll… I’ll have you banned from this building!” Alexia shouted, struggling against Valerie’s hold
“Alexia, I’ve tolerated you for too long. Don’t forget who I am. I’m Marcus Bartz’s wife–the man who loaned you an enormous sum to keep this company afloat. He’s also the majority shareholder. I don’t need your permission to enter this building.”
Alexia’s loud cries caught the attention of both Marcus and Maximus. The men rushed toward the commotion, Marcus feeling a cold sweat as he noticed the open door to his office.
“Valerie! My love, are you alright?”
“Of course!”
“Valerie, sweetheart, let her go.”
“She started harassing me!”
“That’s not true! You attacked me! Maximus, you have to ban her from this building!” Alexia screamed.
“Valerie, please, come here. Let her go. I’m here now. It’s okay,” Marcus said, gently coaxing her.
“Alexia, what on earth are you doing in Marcus’s office?” Maximus asked, his tone laced with irritation
Valerie slowly released her grip on Alexia’s hair, though the question hung in the air: what had transpired in just ten minutes to cause such chaos?
When Alexia was finally free, she looked disheveled and furious. Marcus held Valerie protectively, while Alexia’s appearance left much to be desired–Valerie had even managed to yank out a few of her hair extensions.
“Maximus, you must restrict this woman’s access! She can’t come here and insult me. I’m your wife–the wife of this company’s CEO!”
“Well, it’s about time you remembered who you’re married to! And I am Marcus Bartz’s wife. Is that clear, or do I need to remind you again?” Valerie snapped.
“Enough! Whatever this is, you both need to act like adults. This is the CEO and CFO floor. Ladies, behave accordingly. Alexia, whatever you did or said to provoke Valerie, you owe her an apology,” Maximus said firmly.
“I’m sorry, Maximus. I’m sorry, Marcus,” Alexia said, visibly embarrassed.
