Initially, she chose Spain, but unfortunately, the spots were already filled. If she didn’t choose one of the remaining options, she’d lose her chance, so the left in luckand luck sent her to Valentia. Either way, she didn’t speak the language, so she figured she’d navigate her time there and take the chance to explore the land of pasta, wine, and cheese

Diana was the third daughter of a humble couple. Her parents had four daughters in total. Her two older sisters were married and already had lives of their own. Her younger sister was ten years her junior, still just a child V her mother and younger sister crying, and her father visibly worried, Diana Mendez boarded the plane that would take her to Valentia

She quickly retrieved her small luggage, along with other students in the exchange program. Outside customs, coordinator was waiting to assign them to their accommodations. Diana ended up living in Terravita, a neighborhood known for its residential charm and tourism. She had to admit the place was enchanting. Her accommodation was a tiny apartment with a living room, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroomall miniature in size. She couldn’t resist taking a photo of what would be her home for the next year

After unpacking, she took a bath and headed out to wander through the narrow streets of the neighborhood. She liked what she saw. Her heart felt lighter, finally at peace. It was a feeling she hadn’t thought she’d experience again after the turmoil of the past year

The next day, she attended university, located in Terravita. She was amazed by the classrooms and the sheer number of exchange students. The mix of cultures was incredible

Her first day went well, and before she knew it, three months had passed. Slowly but surely, she was picking up Italian in a handson way. Everything seemed to be going smoothly until the university announced that students needed to broaden their knowledge by working at one of the companies that sponsored the program

Unsurprisingly, Palmer Group topped the list, thanks to its generous donations. Diana’s classmates dreamed of working there. They said that anyone who joined the company had a high chance of being hired permanently. The company only took the best of the best. Its owner was strict but considered one of the top businesspeople in the world

Diana knew nothing about the company. She had submitted her résumé to less prestigious places but, intrigued by the glowing recommendations, decided to apply there too. At that time, Matthew Matthew, a 65yearold man, was already working closely with the imposing and demanding Maximus Palmer. After nearly going bankrupt, Maximus needed all the help he could get to save the company. Matthew, a brilliant mind, had returned to assist under the condition that he have a team of assistants to help with daytoday tasks. Matthew admitted he no longer had the same energy, and Maximus had immediately approved all the staff he needed. Most assistants were recent university graduates who either earned their spots of came through strong referrals

Among all the résumés Matthew reviewed, one caught his attention: Diana Mendez, nationality: Hesperian. He set it aside and read through it carefully. It wasn’t as extraordinary as some of the others, but he found it intriguing to see another Hesperian applicant. Noticing that she lived in Terravita, he thought the location would be convenient. Employees at Palmer often worked late hours, and she seemed perfect for the role
