Chapter 0284
While Serenity spent the day with Maximus and Laura at the Bartz estate, Marcus, Valerie, and John were having breakfast and getting ready to head out for a little excursion. Despite being a child, John was mature–not the kind of mature that involved making deals or hacking computers, but the kind that meant he could make decisions about where to go, what to eat, and what he liked or didn’t. He could even pick the school he liked best and had no hesitation in saying what he thought. A lot of this was thanks to Serenity, who had taught him to think freely and be independent. John knew how to own up to his mistakes, like when he broke something–he’d apologize and figure out how to fix it.
“John, where do you want to go this weekend? It’s your first time here. Have you thought about what you’d like to see?” Marcus asked his son, curious about his choice.
“I want to go to the mini coliseum! Can we go, Dad?” John said, looking at his father intently.
“Of course! We just need to wait for Mom, and then we’ll head out,” Marcus replied, calling out, “Valerie, are you ready?”
Valerie emerged from the hallway, her smile lighting up the room.
“All set! So, where are we going? What did you pick, John?”
“The mini coliseum, Mommy!” John said cheerfully.
“Perfect! Then let’s go to there! I’ve never been there either, my John!”
They were heading toward the door when Marcus’s phone began to ring. He saw that it was Serenity’s security detail, which surprised him a little. Marcus had given thern strict instructions to ensure her safety and report any unusual changes in her routine.
“Go ahead, my love. I need to take this call in the study. I won’t be more than five minutes,” Marcus said, gesturing down the hallway.
Valerie took little John’s hand and walked with him to Marcus’s car. She helped him into his car seat and then climbed into the front, waiting for Marcus to join them so they could leave.
“What’s going on, Philip?” Marcus asked, closing the study door behind him.
“Sir, I thought it necessary to inform you that Miss Serenity had an encounter with Mr. Palmer.“.
“What the hell are you talking about?” Marcus said, his tone sharp.
“Mr. Palmer was with Miss Serenity and another young woman, We’ve looked into it, and it seems she’s Mr. Palmer’s daughter,” Philip replied, a bit embarrassed for not reporting it sooner.
“Have you been following them? Where is Serenity now?” Marcus asked, his concern mounting
If Maximus had approached his daughter, Marcus suspected he was plotting something–using Serenity as a Trojan horse. He didn’t want to alarm Valerie, so he forced himself to keep his thoughts and anger in check.
“Yes, sir. We’ve been following them from a safe distance. Miss Serenity hasn’t noticed us,” Philip said, watching the trio at the cinema ticket counter.
“You still haven’t answered me. Where is my daughter?” Marcus asked, struggling to stay calma.
“The three of them are at the cinema. We’ve followed them here,” Philip said, waiting for further instructions, perhaps hoping Marcus would tell him to bring Serenity back immediately.
Marcus took a deep breath, letting it out in a long sigh. Hebbed his forehead, trying to think.

“Leave her be. Keep watching her, but make sure she doesn’t notice you,” Marcus said, resigned. At that moment, he didn’t want to ruin the day for Valerie and John.
