“I’ve already told you–I can’t offer you anything more than the status you already have. Why can’t you understand that? You knew perfectly well that I was married, and yet you stayed with me. Don’t try to make me feel guilty now,” Gabriel said angrily. 

“You didn’t say that when you swept me off my feet at 16! What would your wife think about that?” Alexia shouted back, her voice breaking with fury and tears. 

“Alexia, don’t you dare try to pull that cheap trick on me!” Gabriel snapped, losing his temper and slapping her 

hard 

“Get out! Get out of my damn life! You’re a bastard! I gave you the best years of my life!” Alexia screamed, her voice echoing with raw emotion. 

“You’d be better off going back to Valentia. Find that sweet little boyfriend of yours–the one who loved you so much. I’m sure he’s still in love with you. You could rebuild your life with someone who can give you everything you need,” Gabriel said, guilt flickering in his eyes. 

“Ha! Now you care about what happens to me? Tell me, if go back to Valentia and marry Maximus, how will you feel? I know full well that what you’ve done with me, you’d never dare with your wife. That’s why you keep coming back to me,” Alexia said, stepping closer and provocatively placing her hand on him. 

“Enough, Alexia! Don’t you get it? We can’t be together. You’re too young for me you deserve a different life,” Gabriel said, pushing her away before storming out of the apartment in a fury. 

For a week after that day, Alexia stayed locked in her apartment. She was listless, consumed by anger and heartbreak. She had given up her life in Valentia to follow Gabriel, abandoning a good man for what she now saw as a “piece of trash.” After shedding countless tears, she decided enough was enough. It was time to get up and take control of her life. Gabriel would regret what he’d done to her. Someday, they’d cross paths again, but when they did, she would carry the title of Mrs. Palmer. His suggestion, as absurd as it sounded at the time, now seemed like a plausible plan. 

On Saturday night, Alexia took a long bath, dried her hair, and opened her closet. Tonight, she would step out, have a drink, and begin erasing Gabriel from her life. Valentia awaited her, but tonight, she’d savor her last evening in Paris. 

Dressed in an elegant yet sensual black dress and a leather jacket, Alexia turned heads as she walked toward the bar she and her friends frequented. Her striking outfit and confident stride drew admiring glances. “How could a man like Gabriel reject someone like me?” she thought with a smirk.
