Chapter 0344
Lucius parked the car in front of Leonardo’s luxurious mansion. It was an enormous palace, more like a castle. Serenity had never seen anything like it up close before.
“Welcome home, Serenity! I hope the trip wasn’t too tiring Lucius insisted we stop for coffee at the place you like, but I preferred something more personal,” said Leonardo, flashing a wide smile.
“Are you my grandfather?”
“Indeed, my dear! I am your grandfather. I am your family!
“Then why did you bring me here by force?”
“I didn’t use force to bring you here. I’d never do that. I apologize for my son–he has very little patience, something he unfortunately inherited from his father,” Leonardo said, shooting a cold glance at Lucius.
“Father, she insists she’s Marcus’s daughter. It drives me crazy. Because of him, we’re in this mess.’
“Oh, Lucius! It’s natural. That’s all she’s ever known. But sooner or later, Serenity, you’ll realize he isn’t the only good one in this story.”
“Fine. I’m here now. What do you want from me? As far as I know, yesterday everyone was shocked to learn I’m Maximus’s daughter. And now you want to get to know me?”
“Serene, you’re my granddaughter! Of course, I want to get to know you. It’s been 20 years since you were separated from the family.”
“And does that matter? Where were you when my mother was being threatened by Alexia Levett? Where were you when my mother didn’t even have enough to eat? You were never there for me, and now you’re pretending to be my family? That’s ridiculous!” Serenity said without remorse.
“My dear, I’m deeply sorry I wasn’t there. I didn’t know what that woman had done to your mother. If I’d known if your mother had just trusted us…“,
“How could she trust you when you constantly pushed her to the limit? I know yesterday it seemed like I was angry with my mother, but that doesn’t mean I don’t love her. I love my mother and appreciate everything she’s done for me. She worked so hard to raise me. And yes, my father is Marcus Bartz. He’s the one who took care of me since I was almost three years old. He was always there for me, which is more than I can say for you or Maximus. Maximus didn’t even know I existed.”
“Serenity, you have to understand–we were always looking for you. But your mother kept you hidden from us. You’re a Palmer. Of course, we would have loved to have you with us from the start. At the very least, Catherine would have been at peace knowing you. She always wanted a daughter, and even though Maximus has Laura, there was always a question of whether she was truly his.”
“And that’s why you tried to kidnap me, isn’t it?” Serenity said seriously.
She recalled seeing a familiar silhouette yesterday during the meeting, Leonardo hadn’t escaped her notice, and it was clear her father recognized him too, judging by the looks they exchanged before the meeting turned into chaos. The man standing before her was undoubtedly the one who had tried to kidnap her when she was only five years old.
“My dear, I was desperate! Your mother refused to return to Valentia, and my poor mother was on her deathbed Your mother was so cold and wouldn’t let us meet you,” said Leonardo, trying to twist the truth.
“I have a very clear memory, Grandpa, and I never saw you speak to her!” Serenity said sharply.
