Chapter 0348
Maximus arrived at the cemetery before Marcus. Without waiting for additional security, he entered and headed straight to the specified location, his heart in his throat. He had no idea who had called him, but the voice had felt familiar. Serenity was with this mysterious individual, and he couldn’t leave her alone for another minute.
As he approached the spot where Peter’s remains rested, he froze at the sight of a familiar silhouette. ‘It’s Peter! He’s alive!‘ was the first thought that came to his mind. The man standing there was meticulously arranging flowers on the grave. Overcome with doubt, Maximus spoke
“Peter…? Is that you?”
The man at the grave turned along with Serenity. It was then that she realized who the stranger reminded her of.
had recently come across a photograph of the man she had always believed was her father. Turning to look at an again, she immediately ran toward Maximus.
“Maximus!” Serenity cried as she rushed into his arms.
“My girl! Are you okay? What happened to your lip?” Maximus asked, holding her face and scanning her intently.
“I’m fine! He helped me!” Serenity said, glancing at the man who hadn’t moved a muscle, seemingly unaffected by Maximus’s presence.
Alden remained at the grave, gently touching the plaque as if it were his father’s face. His features bore an uncanny resemblance to Peter’s, but no one could confirm he was Peter’s son. Maximus had known little about his brother’s personal life, aside from Serenity, whose mother was Mary. Their communication had dwindled in their youth, and when they spoke, it was strictly about business
“Who are you?” Maximus asked, his voice firm yet laced with doubt.
The young man removed his hand from the plaque and turned to face them. His rimless glasses revealed striking gray eyes. Dressed elegantly in dark clothing, he exuded the unmistakable bearing of a Palmer. Maximus felt as if he were staring at his brother reborn–those sleepy eyes, thick yet neatly shaped eyebrows, and features that echoed Peter’s. 1
Memories of their childhood flooded Maximus’s mind: playing in the garden, sleepovers, and childhood mischief. It was impossible. Peter seemed to have been reborn in this dashing young man..
“Well, I suppose it’s true–I haven’t introduced myself,” Alden said, noticing the nostalgic look on Maximus’s
face.
As Alden approached, Maximus, still holding Serenity, exclaimed, “You’re Peter’s son! You’re his living image!”
Releasing Serenity momentarily, he lunged toward Alden, pulling him into a tight embrace. The young man heard Maximus begin to sob. After a moment, Maximus stepped back to study Alden’s face. It was as if life had given him a chance to see his brother again.
Alden stood frozen, unable to move as his uncle embraced him. Of all the scenarios he had envisioned, he never Imagined this kind of reception from Maximus. His mother had told him that Peter and Maximus didn’t get along and rarely spoke.
Where have you been all these years?your name? How old are you? Who’s your mother? Where do you
live?” Maximus bombarded him with questions, all while cupping Alden’s face. 17
“Maybe you should let go of me first…” Alden replied, looking at Maximus with a mix of disbelief and amusement. “Yes, you’re right! It’s just… you look so much like Peter that…” Maximus trailed off, trying to compose himself.
