Chapter 0373
Alden and his mother, Katherine, had always been seen as outsiders. It was obvious they weren’t from Argentina. Grace’s parents, on the other hand, were well–known as one of the most prominent families in the oil extraction business.
The relationship between the two young people had been a surprise–at least to Katherine. But no matter what, they loved each other, and it wasn’t just some childish whim. The news of Grace’s pregnancy, however, was bound to complicate things for Alden’s small family. Katherine was worried. She knew Grace’s parents, and with their daughter still being underage, they could accuse Alden of statutory rape. Katherine didn’t have the resources to fight that kind of battle.
“Grace, I love you, and I know you love me too, but your parents have never approved of us. I’m afraid of how they’ll react when they find out about the baby,” Alden said nervously.
“Alden, I love you, and that’s all that matters! If my parents don’t support me, so what? You and I will raise our baby together. Your mom managed on her own, and now we can do the same. We don’t need them,” Grace replied passionately.
“We’re going to be great parents for this little one! Don’t forget–I love you, Grace!”
These were the hopeful thoughts of two naive teenagers, but the reality was far more complicated. Grace was four months pregnant. Her belly wasn’t showing yet, but the symptoms were becoming obvious. Alden’s nerves were on edge. Just a few months ago, his life had felt peaceful, and now he walked around with a constant knot in his stomach. Grace’s father, Sanford Martin, already dismissed him as a “worthless bum.” What would happen when he found out his daughter–his little princess–was pregnant by Alden?
Katherine knew, and Darius had promised to support them as best he could, but their resources were nothing compared to what a man like Sanford Martin could muster.
One bad day, Alden returned home from school to find Sanford waiting for him outside his apartment. As soon as Sanford saw him, his expression shifted from worry to pure rage. It was clear what he was there for.
“You little bastard! Do you think you’ve hit the jackpot? You and your wretched mother are nothing but outsiders who’ve come to invade this place!” Sanford shouted, storming toward Alden with the intent to break every bone in his body.
The shouting didn’t go unnoticed by their neighbor, Ignatius. Hearing the commotion, Ignatius stepped out of his apartment and froze at the sight: a burly man had Alden by the throat, lifting him inches off the ground. Ignatius’s blood boiled. Without hesitation, he cocked his gun, the metallic click sharp in the air.
“Let the boy go, or I’ll shoot and claim self–defense,” Ignatius said, his gun aimed at Sanford.
“This little punk got my daughter pregnant! That’s reason enough to kill him with my bare hands! My daughter’s a minor, and this piece of trash has nothing to offer her. He’s a filthy outsider!” Sanford roared.
“I said let him go. It doesn’t matter what kind of scum he is–you’re a grown man, and he’s just a kid. Someone here has to show some restraint,” Ignatius said, his voice calm but firm.
“No! This bastard ruined my daughter’s life–my little girl And if you think you’re going to marry her, you’re dead wrong. I’ll make sure she gets rid of that baby, and that’ll be the end of it. Hear me? You will never see her again!” Sanford bellowed as he finally released Alden and stormed off, cursing all the way down the hall.
Alden struggled to catch his breath. He pulled out his phone to call Grace, but she didn’t answer. Worse, her phone didn’t even ring.
“What’s wrong, Alden? Are you okay?” Ignatius asked, concerned.

“No, Nat! No! Her father just found out about the baby. I’m such an idiot. I can’t even protect my girlfriend from her own father. Nat, I don’t know what to do. He’s going to hurt her!” Alden said, panic in his voice.
“Calm down, Alden. She’s his daughter. He wouldn’t harm his own child,” Ignatius replied, trying to reassure him.
But Alden wasn’t convinced. He remembered a conversation he’d had with a man a week ago. Pulling out his phone, he quickly searched for the number.
“I know I said I didn’t need your help, but I’ve changed my mind. I need you. Can I see you? Are you still here?” Alden said, his voice filled with desperation.
“I’ll meet you at the pier in an hour,” the man replied.
“Thanks, Nat, for stepping in. I have to go. If my mom comes home, don’t tell her about this,” Alden said, grabbing his backpack and rushing down the hallway.
