“Who are you? I was expecting Mr. Palmer, and that’s not you,” Sanford said arrogantly. 

“That’s the thing,” Peter said with a cold smile. “I am Mr. Palmer. The boy you threatened is my son. And if you don’t know who I am, then you must not be as involved in this business as you think. Do you even know who sets the prices for the products you sell?” 

Sanford scoffed. “Don’t make me laugh. How could someone as young as you possibly be one of the richest men in the world?” 

“It’s not about youth; it’s about what’s in your head. But that’s not the point of this conversation,” Peter said, his tone calm but firm. “We’re here to talk about my son and your daughter. I understand that they both made mistakes–they’re young and don’t fully grasp the consequences of their actions. I also know that a baby will complicate their futures. Your daughter, I assume, is meant to follow in your footsteps as an influential businesswoman. My son, on the other hand, is destined for greatness. I see it in him. 

“I haven’t been around for him, but he has my full support. So, tell me how can we resolve this matter?” 

“The only way to ‘resolve‘ this,” Martin replied coldly, “is for her to get rid of that child. That’s the only solution. I see no other way. My daughter is destined to marry someone of our standing–not some foreigner like your ‘son, ‘ if he even is your son.” 

“So, what bothers you,” Peter said, his voice steady, “is that she can’t marry someone of your status? That’s an easy fix. How much do you want? Name a number. I can pay whatever it takes. If you’re looking for an alliance, I can provide the funds you need. Consider it a dowry from my son. But here’s the deal: the moment I pay, your daughter will no longer be yours. Technically, I’ll have bought her. Agreed?” 

“Listen!” Martin roared, standing abruptly and shoving his chair back. “My daughter is not some commodity to be sold to anyone. I love my daughter, and what your son did to her is a crime. Here, it’s called statutory rape, and he could spend years in prison.” 

“Something doesn’t add up here,” Peter said coolly. “I’m offering you money to settle this, and you’re rejecting it. Isn’t that essentially the same solution you just suggested moments ago?” 

“No! That’s not what I meant!!” Sanford barked. 

“Well, aren’t you quick to change your tune?” Peter said with biting sarcasm. 

“Listen, sir. I suggest you watch your tone, or you’ll see what I can do to your son…” 

“You think you’re in a position to threaten me?” Peter’s voice remained calm, almost unnervingly so. “Let me ask you one last time: how much do you want to allow my son and your daughter to unite their lives?” 

“No, my daughter will never marry your stupid son. Damn foreigners, thinking they can come here and do whatever they please!” 

“My son is more Argentinian than I am. He was born and raised here. But I see the issue isn’t him–it’s you. You’re the one with the inferiority complex. I’m offering you a solution to your so–called problem. I assume what truly bothers you is what people will say when they find out your daughter is pregnant. I don’t see the problem. I can take them away from here with pleasure. I’m only being courteous by coming here to speak father to father. Isn’t that what you wanted?” 

“Alright, Mr. Palmer, let’s calm down,” Sanford said, regaining a measure of composure. “What exactly are you offering to resolve the mess your son created?” 

“Simple, Mr. Martin,” Peter said, pulling a checkbook from his coat and writing a figure. “If you agree to let them stay together and never lay a hand on my son again, I’ll deposit this amount in full. And if it’s the gossip you’re
