John had invited Ethan to his house many times, but his grandfather had set a condition: if he wanted to visit a friend, he had to bring a gift. Therefore, Ethian had to save his Sundays to buy something that the family he was visiting might like. Incredibly, his grandfather could buy him the gift without any problem, but that was the issue -Peter didn’t want to raise a spoiled and arrogant child. The effort had to come from Ethan’s own pocket. 

Several Sundays had to pass before Ethan could afford the ingredients necessary to make cookies. The idea originally came from Theodore, who noticed that the boy, despite saving, couldn’t reach the required amount to buy something. Ethan even tried selling his toys to the man which made Theodore feel a sense of tenderness, so he decided to offer him this solution. 

“Ethan… why don’t you buy the ingredients to make the cookies you like?” 

“Can I do that?” 

“How much do you have saved?” 

“I have 100 dollars…” 

“With that, you should be just fine. Besides, we should have some ingredients in the kitchen, but don’t tell your grandfather, that way you only need to buy a box…” 

Ethan’s eyes widened so much that his gray pupils seemed like they were going to burst. 

“Go ahead, kid, hurry up. Talk to the cook and ask her to help you check what ingredients are missing for the cookies.”

“FIONAAAA?” Ethan shouted at the top of his lungs as he searched for her. 

“What is it, little one?” 

“Hey, do we have ingredients to make chocolate chip cookies?” 

“Mmm, let me check. Do you want some cookies?” 

“No, I want to ask if you’ll help me make some. I want to take them to my friend and his family.” 

“Let me see… Mmm, we have flour, eggs, butter,” Fiona said as she checked the pantry. “I think we’re just missing the chocolate chips.” 

“Are they expensive?” 

“I don’t think so. Do you want me to go buy some quickly?” 

“I’ll come with you. I need to pay for the chips and buy a box to take them…” 

“Alright! I’ll tell the driver to take us.” 

Peter was standing in front of the window in his study when he saw the small silhouette of Ethan walking out hand in hand with Fiona. It piqued his curiosity, so he went outside and called out to Ethan. The little boy, feeling caught, became nervous.
