Chapter 0401
“Grandpa? Grandpa? Where are you?”
“Ethan, I’m in the study in a meeting, but tell me, what’s going on? With your insistence, it must be important.”
“I have the gift for my friend’s family. I’m going to drop it off now…”
“Ethan, it doesn’t work like that. We said you should save for a gift, but before I let you go, I need to meet the family you’re visiting.”
Ethan showed a certain degree of concern. His brow furrowed, and he said:
“No, Grandpa, you promised, and now you have to keep your word. I already have the gift, look.” The boy showed him the box filled with strange chocolate chip cookies.
“Team, give me a few minutes. Feel free to go eat or something. We’ll take a 30–minute break, I need to check on something personal,” Peter said through his computer.
All his workers nodded and left the meeting. Ethan still stood there, right next to him. This was the first time the little boy behaved this way, especially interrupting a meeting.
“Ethan, I told you that you needed a gift, but I don’t even know your friend’s name. I don’t know his family, I don’t know anything about your friendship. You haven’t told me anything.”
“Grandpa… He didn’t go to school this week. The teacher told me he’s in bed, which means he’s sick. I need to go visit him. He’s been very nice to me since we met. Please!”
Peter took a deep breath, looked at him for a few seconds, and then said:
“Go get your coat. We leave in 5 minutes, not a minute later. Whether you’re ready or not, we’re going to your friend’s house. I’ll return home to finish my meeting, I’ll see where your friend lives, and then I’ll come back. Later, I’ll pick you up. You know your dad is traveling, and Theodore went out to run an errand for me, so if my meeting takes longer, I’ll have to send the driver.”
“Yes, Grandpa! I’m going, I’m going…”
The little Ethan ran out of the study, grabbed the first thing he found to wear, and took his box of cookies. By the time the man was coming down the stairs from the second floor, the little boy was already waiting for him.
“Come on, Grandpa… Let’s go! His house is close, I’ve already checked the way for days.”
Peter hated dressing formally. He was usually seen in a shirt, but paired with jeans and short or long coats, his appearance was youthful. But his heart was that of a grandfather, overflowing with love for his grandson, who was more like a son to him.
“Sir, are you leaving? Would you like me to drive you?”
“Yes, I’m leaving, Fabian, but I’m a bit stressed. I’d like to drive myself to clear my head. Maybe later you’ll have to go get Ethan, but I’ll confirm.”
“Of course, sir! As you wish…”
Peter helped Ethan into his little seat in the back of the truck, secured him, and then climbed in to head straight for the address Ethan had entered in the app.
“Ethan, I don’t need to tell you again, but I need you to behave well. If your friend is sick, try not to bother him. If you need me to come get you early, ask your friend’s mom to call me, and I’ll come or send for you.”
