They carefully went up the stairs and finally entered the room where John was lying down. At first, he had a sad expression, but when he saw Ethan, his face changed completely. 

“Ethan! Mom, this is Ethan, my friend from school!” 

“I know, sweetheart… no need to shout…” 

“Ethan… Come, sit down. How have you been? What have you been up to? I was worried about you…”

Valerie could only watch as the two boys ignored her and dove into their own conversation. She then went downstairs to the kitchen and saw the package the boy had brought. She opened the box and took out a deformed cookie, but when she ate it, it tasted delicious. 

“This kid was right! The cookies are delicious!” 

“That boy is a sweetheart… I’ve seen him at school, and in no time, John and he have become very close.” 

“It’s incredible. His face reminds me of someone, but I don’t know who. His eyes are gray, just like Serenity’s, don’t you think? But what about that strict father? If he didn’t bring a gift, he couldn’t come to see my John. That’s very cruel, forcing a child to bring something on his own, especially at that age. 

“Well, if that man forced me to do other things, I wouldn’t resist!”

“What? You have your handsome man, but someone who doesn’t have anything just settles for looking at the occasional Valentian. And let me tell you something, you haven’t seen the little boy’s grandfather! He’s a monument, just like your Marcus, but a little younger.” 

“And he’s already a grandfather?”

After a long while, little Ethan carefully went down the stairs and approached Camille. 

“Mrs. Camille, I’m leaving now. Ethan has fallen asleep. Can you call my dad to come pick me up?” 

“Of course! Do you have his number?” 

“Yes, I know it by heart…” The boy said, dialing the number on the phone. 

After a minute, Ethan returned the phone to Camille and said that a driver would come to pick him up. His grandfather’s meeting had run late, and he wouldn’t be able to come for him. Valerie, upon hearing this, offered to take him, but the boy declined, saying Fabian would come for him. 

“Alright, Ethan, you’re a very well–behaved boy. What are your parents‘ names?” 

“My mom’s name is Grace, and my dad’s name is Alden. My mom lives in Spain, and my dad lives with me at Grandpa’s house.” 

“Oh, yes! Your dad takes care of you… 

“Yes, but not much. The one who takes care of me the most is my grandpa. He’s my best friend at home…” 

“Wow, you really love him a lot…”
