“He was your friend, but you’re not to blame either. The whole blame is on that damn woman. If she hadn’t interfered in your life, you would’ve probably ended up marrying Mary.” 

“There’s no point in talking about it,” Peter said, downing the contents of his glass in one gulp. 

“You’re fooling yourself! But alright, I won’t push the tople anymore for now. Just think, if Maximus saw you, any other day, Marcus or Mary will run into you. It’ll be inevitable not to see her. Their son is in the same preschool as Ethan.” 

“It will be what it has to be… When that happens, I’ll figure out what I need to do. Also, do I need to remind you who’s the boss in this house?”

His son just shrugged and lowered his head, signaling that he wouldn’t insist any further. He realized that his father was missing something from his past life. It clearly wasn’t his mother, it could very well be Mary, but he was wrapped in a shell and wouldn’t open up so easily. At least it was somewhat reassuring that his father had decided to speak with his own brother. That was still a good sign. After so many years, the Palmers were bound to meet again eventually.

“Mr. Palmer, today I met your granddaughter. She’s definitely charming. There’s no doubt she will be a wonderful life companion. She’s very sweet and naive. I spent the day with her during classes, and I must say she’s quite an Interesting girl. The only thing I’ve noticed is that her father keeps a very close watch on her,” said a youthful voice on the other end of the line. 

“I know, boy! But just remember that this must stay between you and me. Not even Lucius should know about this. If you marry her, you will be the future of the compang. Don’t forget that!” Leonardo replied with pleasure. 

“Understood! My uncle Alex passed me some details about the girl. They’re few, but they will help me get closer to her. By the time she realizes it, Laura will be completely in love with me.” 

“I hope so. Don’t disappoint me!” Leonardo said, ending the call as he heard footsteps approaching his room.
