Valerie stayed seated on the bathroom floor, her hand resting on her stomach, still unable to believe she was pregnant. One thing was clear; she needed to talk to Marcus as soon as possible. Thinking back, she realized it had been months since her last period. Being irregular, she hadn’t worried, but now the signs were undeniable.
Her lower back had been aching for days, certain smells seemed overwhelmingly strong, she was more tired than usual, and her pants had been getting tighter. She’d blamed it all on eating too many desserts recently, but now it
all made sense.
Lost in thought, Valerie didn’t notice someone knocking at the bathroom door. Suddenly, the door creaked open, bumping against her. Sitting on the floor, she looked up, startled, and saw Marcus standing there. In her hands, she still held the two pregnancy tests. Marcus’s eyes widened as he took in the sight of his wife. Her eyes and nose were red, her expression unreadable–neither sad nor happy, just… distant.
“Valerie, my love, is something wrong? What’s that?” Marcus asked as he knelt to her level.
His gaze fell on the tests in her hands. A wave of warmth swept over him as realization dawned.
“Vale… is it what I think it is?” he asked softly.
Unable to speak, she nodded. Marcus picked up the tests and saw the results. His eyes widened in astonishment, and then a grin spread across his face.
“We’re going to be parents!” Marcus said, his voice bursting with joy.
Valerie looked at him, startled.
“Marcus, aren’t you worried? We’re not exactly young anymore.”
“Love, you’re not as old as you think you are. You’re vibrant, and you’re at a wonderful age to be a mom again. All we need is proper care and to follow the doctor’s advice. In fact, we need to book an appointment with a gynecologist right away.”
“Do you really think everything will be okay? I’m scared my body won’t handle the pregnancy.”
“Relax! We’ll find the best doctor, someone who will guides through this. If this little one has already decided to come into our lives, there’s no turning back. You and I are strong, and that strength is in their blood.”
Marcus pulled her into a firm embrace, holding her tightly, knowing it was what she needed thost in that moment. Neither of them had planned for another child, but now that it was happening, they’d do everything to welcome this baby into the world.
*Come on, sweetheart. Let me help you up,” Marcus said, gently pulling her to her feet. “There’s nothing to worry about. This baby is coming at just the right time. They know when to arrive. And now everything makes
sense.”
“Marcus…” Valerie said softly, her voice trembling.
“What is it, my love?”
“Thank you.”
“For what?” Marcus asked, puzzled.
“For loving me so much. Seeing that positive test left me in shock. My mind was racing with all sorts of fears. But with you by my side, I know our baby will be safe.”
