Adrian, after ending the kiss, glanced at the girl before him–blushing, her face pure and angelic, her eyes still closed. He allowed a slight smile to fonn, amused and confident. It was clear that he wasn’t indifferent to her, nor she to him.
“I’ll see you after school…” he said, leaning in for another quick kiss on her lips before walking away toward his classroom.
Laura barely had time to react as the young man strode off, that kiss had awakened something inside her–a tender, innocent part of her she hadn’t yet understood. Her first kiss had been stolen, yet she realized she wouldn’t mind having a few more stolen. Now, she understood why her old school friends were always whispering about kisses and… well, other things
“No, Laura, don’t think about that stuff. It was just a kiss, she scolded herself, shaking her head to clear the thought.
But it was no use. For the rest of the day, she couldn’t focus. She had planned to study some difficult topics at her new school, but now her mind had room for only one thing: Adrian.
When the school day ended, Laura went looking for her brothers. They each came to meet her from their classrooms, their bond strong and affectionate. The three of them were siblings without a mother but had a loving father who cared for them deeply. They had taken it upon themselves to watch over one another. After spending many years apart, they now cherished the closeness they shared.
Paul couldn’t help but notice that Laura was walking with Adrian, and his expression turned wary. He didn’t trust the guy at all. He’d heard rumors about Adrian–wild stories that didn’t paint him in the best light. Paul, though only 15, was perceptive enough to see that his nearly 18–year–old sister could be easy prey for someone as smooth as Adrian.
Meanwhile, Maximus was waiting in his truck, scanning the crowd. His focus wasn’t on Laura; instead, he was searching for his brother. The last time he’d seen Peter, they hadn’t exchanged phone numbers, and he still didn’t know where Peter lived. Sure, he could investigate and find but, but he didn’t want to risk pushing Peter away. So, his eyes remained fixed on the flow of cars and students coming and going
Then, out of nowhere, his gaze landed on Laura. She was walking with the same young man Maximus had seen with her the day before. But something was different now. Between them was a shared look, ah intensity that hadn’t been there before. A wave of heat shoe through Maximus’s body–he knew boys like Adrian. He’d been one himself, back in the day, when he used to look at Alexia with that very same expression.
Maximus was about to step out of his truck, ready to confront the boy and forbid him from going near Laura But just then, another truck pulled up in front of his. It was Peter’s. Peter gestured through the rearview mirror, and Maximus got out of his truck and approached his brother’s
“How have you been?” Maximus asked calmly.
“Have you been having me investigated?” Peter replied, his tone serious as he locked eyes with him.
“No!” Maximus answered, taken aback. “I’ve respected your decision. In fact, I wanted to ask for your number and address so I could visit you, brother. I miss you–I want to see you, to know what’s going on in your life.” His voice was tinged with nostalgia.
Peter sighed deeply, adjusting his sunglasses as he looked straight ahead.
“If it’s not you, then who the hell is digging into my life?” Peter asked, doubt clouding his voice.
