[Clearmount International School]
Ethan skipped along toward the school’s exit, clearly in much better spirits than when he’d arrived that morning It turned out he had confused the due date for his art project–it wasn’t due until the following Friday. With that weight off his shoulders, his day had improved dramatically
Miss Celeste, however, wanted to speak with Ethan’s grandfather to explain the situation. The boy had been insistent that his behavior might ruin his chances of attending her art exhibition that evening, and he was determined to go.
“Miss… Look, there’s my grandpa! We can explain everything, and then I’ll still be able to go to your other job tonight,” Ethan said, tugging on his art teacher’s hand.
Miss Celeste had no choice but to follow Ethan’s small, determined strides. Peter was waiting for his grandson by the exit, no longer looking upset. Ethan was counting on both his and the teacher’s explanations to smooth things over so he could attend the evening’s event.
“Hi, Grandpa!” Ethan shouted, running to wrap his arms around Peter’s legs.
“Hello, my boy!” Peter said, lifting Ethan up without noticing the woman standing in front of him.
“Hello again, Mr. Palmer,” Miss Celeste said softly.
“Miss Johnson, we meet again.”
“Yes! May I have a quick word with you?”
Peter looked at his grandson, his friendly expression shifting slightly, suspecting that Ethan might have caused some trouble in class.
“Ethan thought he’d forgotten a project I assigned for next week. He just told me about it and was very worried, which is why he didn’t want to come to school this morning rather than admit he’d forgotten the assignment.”
“Is that what this was all about?” Peter asked, turning to the sheepish–looking boy.
נו
“Yes…” Ethan mumbled.
“Please don’t be too hard on him. Ethan is one of my best students and really enjoys art. That’s why I invited him to an exhibition tonight. I think it would be a great opportunity for him to gather some ideas for his project next Friday.”
“I see. I’ll talk it over with him. If someone can accompany him, I don’t see why he shouldn’t go to the event you invited him to.”
“Let’s hope so!” Miss Celeste said with a playful wink at Ethan.
Grandfather and grandson headed to their sleek SUV, while Miss Celeste waved them off with a warm smile. Peter glanced in the rearview mirror to see Ethan energetically waving back at his teacher.
“You like Miss Celeste, don’t you?” Peter asked.
“Yeah! She’s a great teacher. She teaches us art and tells us stories about each painting she shows us. She talks about Van Gogh, Picasso, and Monet–he’s her favorite.”
“Really?”

Chapter 0437
“Yep! She told me that’s real art, not ridiculous stuff.”
“Did she actually say that?”
“Well, she used a different word, but it means ridiculous stuff.”
“Why do you like her so much?”
“She’s really smart and really, really pretty! When I grow up, I hope I meet someone as pretty as her. Can we bring her flowers later? She likes freesias.”
“Who said we’re going later?”
“You did!”
“I never said that…”
