Chapter 0438
At exactly 6:00 pm, Theodore and Ethan were already waiting in the living room. To their surprise, a stunning bouquet of freesias was resting on the coffee table. Theodore had forgotten the boy’s request to buy flowers, planning to grab some on the way to the event. But as he descended the stairs, the sweet scent of the freesias greeted him, and he quickly realized that Peter had beaten him to it.
Theodore, who had known and worked with Peter for years, immediately understood what was happening. Peter had never shown interest in any woman before–not even when it came to Ethan’s teachers. In the past, he would Investigate entire institutions for safety, but never a single individual. This was different.
Peter appeared impeccably elegant. Normally, he avoided formal attire, favoring jeans, shirts, and coats, but tonight he wore a black suit paired with a dark gray shirt. He had skipped the tie, leaving a few buttons undone, giving him a casually sensual look.
“Wow, Grandpa! You’re the most handsome man I’ve ever seen! Miss Celeste is definitely going to fall in love with you,” Ethan said innocently, completely unaware of the implications of his words.
“Ethan, events like these are formal. We need to dress accordingly. This is your first exhibition, and it’s an important day for you,” Peter replied calmly.
Theodore watched the exchange, holding back a comment as Peter’s sharp glare silenced any attempt. As they aded out of the mansion together, Theodore grabbed Peter’s arm and handed him the bouquet of freesias. Adjusting Peter’s collar, he said with a smirk, “Relax, this will be easy–it’s just like old times.”
Peter frowned, momentarily confused. By the time he realized what Theodore meant, his friend was already helping Ethan buckle into his car seat.
They soon arrived at the gallery. Peter rarely attended events like these, but he kept reminding himself that he was there to support Ethan. The venue was already filling with guests, though the exhibition hadn’t officially started. Ethan skipped excitedly between displays while Theodore discreetly watched Peter’s reactions.
The scene felt almost familial, like afather taking his son to a school event. Though their age difference wasn’t vast, Theodore sometimes felt like he was the father of the Palmer household.
As they strolled through the gallery, their eyes fell on an elegant woman in a stunning electric blue dress. She radiated a captivating beauty. The dress contrasted perfectly with her fair skin, gracefully highlighting her curves with subtle sophistication. It seemed as if the gown had been crafted just for her, delicately skimming her hips with effortless elegance.
Her shoulders were bare, revealing just enough to suggest sensuality without compromising class. The trio watched as her angelic face lit up upon spotting Ethan. She approached them with a warm smile, her dark, enigmatic eyes locking with Peter’s. Her long hair was styled in two elegant braids held together by delicate ribbons. Peter felt an unexpected wave of nerves, unsure of how to react to such a vision.
“Hello! Good evening,” Miss Celeste greeted warmly.
“Good evening, Miss Johnson,” Theodore said, extending his hand.
Hi, Miss! We brought you something, Grandpa! Give Miss Celeste the flowers!” Ethan said, tugging on Peter’s
Peter, slightly embarrassed, handed over the bouquet. Celeste’s dark eyes met his, sending a subtle shiver down his spine.
“Freesias! I love freesias! Thank you so much,” Celeste said, smiling and tilting her head slightly in appreciation. “Thank my grandpa! He bought them. Grandpa Theodore forgot!” Ethan blurted out without hesitation.

“Well, thank you, Mr. Palmer! They’re beautiful. These are my favorite flowers. Now, this gallery features paintings from some of my colleagues. I hope you enjoy them. My own works are in the adjoining room. I’ll leave you to explore, but if anything catches your eye, feel free to let me know–or ask one of the staff for assistance.”
