“Yeah? So what are you going to do with that?” Frederick asked, gesturing toward the report. “Are you planning to show it to Valerie?” 

“No! She’s in no condition to find out. She’s nearly four months pregnant. My babies don’t deserve for their mom to suffer because of news like this. At least for now, I’ll keep this to myself until they’re born. After that, I’ll find the right time to tell her. I don’t keep secrets from her, and this isn’t something I can bury forever. If she finds out before I tell her, she’d never forgive me.” 

“I know it’s not easy, but you should tell her the truth before it’s too late.” 

“I already told you, not right now. If she weren’t pregnant, would. But at this moment? How do you think she’d handle news like this?” 

“What was Peter’s explanation? And how does Theodore fit into all of this?”

Eliya sat reading a novel while Alexia slept. The weather outside was chilly, so she had turned up the heating a bit. It hadn’t been a good day for the missus, but at least when she woke up, there would be good news from her beloved husband. 

“What are you reading?” Alexia asked, her blue eyes fixed on him. 

“A romance novel, ma’am, just to pass the time. It’s a bit cold outside, so I came here for some warmth. How are you feeling?” 

“My head hurts, and I’m hungry… 

“Of course, ma’am! I’ll get your food. Oh, and by the way, Mr. Palmer called–he said he’ll come as soon as he gets a flight. You see how much he loves you? He hasn’t forgotten you,” Eliya said innocently. 

Alexia rolled her eyes. She knew perfectly well that what truly drove that man was finding out she was regaining 

mobility. She had discovered she could move her hand more but planned to use that information only when absolutely necessary. 

A few minutes later, Eliya returned to the room with a tray of food. Surprisingly, Alexia was in a good mood and ate everything on the tray, even the dessert. Her refusal to eat had caused her to lose weight, and while her face had become more sculpted, the lack of Botox made her look a little unusual. Still, she retained some of her natural beauty.
