Chapter 0465
[Florentia, Valentia, 12 years ago]
Peter lay on the divan in his study, eyes closed as he tried to conjure the image of the woman in the photograph Her smile was radiant, her hazel eyes captivating. He wondered how she was doing What had become of the daughter? What would he say to them when they met again? How could be explain that he wasn’t dead–or worse, that he didn’t remember her?
“Peter?” came a voice from outside the study.
“Yes,” he answered, opening his dark eyes.
“The plane is ready. We can leave now. Are you ready?” Theodore asked, a hint of hesitation in his tone
The study door creaked open, and Peter stepped out, leaning on his cane.
“I’m ready. It’s been too many years without her. What’s the worst that could happen? It’s just a matter of talking, explaining what happened, and why I’m here now.”
“We’ll see what happens once we’re in Hesperia,” Theodore replied, standing firm beside him
“It sounds so simple, doesn’t it?”
“It is simple.”
As soon as Peter had regained his faculties and learned that he had a fiancée and a daughter in his past, he had devoted himself to finding them. It didn’t take much effort to locate Mary, she had returned to Hesperia
The final report from the investigator only covered the first two years of their daughter’s life. After that, there was a complete void of information. That lack of detail had gnawed at Peter, spurring him to accelerate his trip. What little he had learned suggested that Mary had endured hardship, and the uncertainty about her and their daughter haunted his sleepless nights. He had worked out what he might say to explain his survival, but he had no idea how to explain that he had no memory of her. She was a stranger to him now. And yet, he searched for her because of the unbreakable bond of their shared daughter–a child he had never known.
Upon arriving in Hesperia, Peter and Theodore visited the last known address from the investigation. Mary no longer lived in the house she had once shared with her roommate, Camille. Theodore approached Camille, pretending to be an old acquaintance. Camille, aware of Mary’s history in Valentia, was cautious. Though she recognized the connection, she pretended not to know anything about Mary or her current whereabouts. Theodore, suspecting Camille was withholding information, began surveilling her. After days of watching, his suspicions were confirmed when Camille visited a woman named Valerie–Mary under her new identity. During the visit, Camille warned her friend that someone from Valentia was looking for her. It could be Maximus, or it could be Leonardo.
Marcus, aware of the potential threat, bolstered security around his wife and adopted daughter. For days, they didn’t leave the house. Weeks later, when they finally ventured out, Theodore spotted them. The sight of Mary, her daughter, and Marcus together told him everything he needed to know.
Theodore was tom. How could he break this news to Peter? How could be tell him that his former fiancée was now married to his best friend?
After days of observing and gathering information, Theodore decided it was time to tell Peter. Armed with a

“Peter… There’s something I need to discuss with you,” Theodore said gravely.
“What is it, Theodore? Have you found Mary and my daughter?”
“Yes, Peter, I have. But I think we need to consider carefully whether it’s the right thing to approach her.”
