“As for what you said about thinking I was there, I’ve always been with you. I’ve never left you alone. I’ve always watched over you from the shadows. I know you’re an amazing photographer. I know you study business, and you always neglect your career for your hobby. I know that when you feel overwhelmed, you hardly sleep, but I also know that as soon as you get through one thing, you get yourself right into another situation. 

“You like coffee with hazelnut syrup. I know you want to visit Paris. I know you have a page where you sell your best photographs. Theodore has bought dozens of them, even making special orders. That man is an art fanatic and says you have a gift. I have some of your photos in my studio. 

“I know that when you were a child, you secretly sold candies, and Marcus had your back. You wore braces until you were 17, and that made nobody want to ask you out. You liked a cocky boy from high school. By the way, I didn’t like that guy for you. He reminded me of myself when I was young, and I wouldn’t want that kind of guy for

“You were the one! You were the one sending those flowers” Serenity said, pulling away from the embrace 

The girl’s eyes were wide with surprise; she couldn’t believe that this man had never truly left her. For a moment, she felt lost. The entire story she had known about her “Lather was crumbling before her eyes. Now she realized that Peter had never left her alone, he had never truly gone. 

“Serenity, I know you’re not my biological daughter–I found out about that recently, too–but that doesn’t matter. It changes nothing. You and Alden are my children, and that’s all that matters.” 

“Do you know Alden?” 

“Of course! Like you, I didn’t get the chance to meet him until he was 18. He’s been living with me for just over five years now. He’s the son of an old love.” 

“My lawyer, knowing that I had been declared dead, gave him my surname. I didn’t get to meet him when he was a child. Today, it comforts me to know I take care of my grandson, who looks just like me. I hope life gives me the chance to meet a grandson or granddaughter from your side, but I hope that’s many years from now.” 

Serenity could only manage a small, embarrassed smile. She knew where Peter was going with this.
