Peter dropped Celeste off at the door, and several of the teachers whispered when they saw the handsome gentleman helping her out of the car. Most of the teachers at the school knew Peter Palmer. The charming man had an irresistible physical appeal, and when they saw Celeste holding his hand, jealousy took over, prompting the whispers. 

Celeste noticed this but chose not to pay it any mind. Her new relationship was her business and no one else’s. With that in mind, she entered the teachers‘ lounge, dropped off her things, and prepared for class. The school director approached her and asked her to come into her office. The whispers had quickly reached the director’s ears, and she wanted to confirm or dismiss them. 

“Miss Johnson, you know this school has a longstanding family reputation, and rumors are not something we tolerate here. I ask that you please keep your personal life separate from the institution.” 

“Director, I can assure you that my private life remains just that–private. I don’t owe any explanation. Have I not performed well during my time here? Have I missed any classes? Have 1 been late to school? I don’t think so. My personal matters are just that–personal. What happens outside of school should not concern the institution as long as I meet the objectives, values, and mission of the school. My personal life should remain separate from this place.” 

“Miss Johnson, I only wanted to let you know that your relationship with Mr. Palmer is being seen in a negative light. Your colleagues are women of double standards, but they are also good teachers. I know you’re a great asset, and I don’t want to lose you because of your personal life.” 

“I ask that, whatever your relationship with Mr. Palmer may be, it does not interfere with the institution. You are free to date anyone you like. Personally, if I were you, I’d do the same. The man is exquisitely handsome. Any of the teachers who are upset today, I believe, would think the same. All gossip comes from the tongues of envy, so please be more careful.” 

“Thank you for the advice, Director. Now, if there’s nothing else to discuss, I’ll be heading to teach my children‘ 

“That’s all from me. I’m looking forward to seeing the preschool kids‘ performance. They should be adorable, and, you’ve done a great job with the rehearsals. By the way, today they’ll be setting up the lights and the set. But before the rehearsals start, the crew that’s setting everything up will have already left, so there won’t be any Interruptions.” 

“Thanks for letting me know, Director! I hope everything goes perfectly for the kids‘ performance on Friday.” 

“I trust it will, as it’s the first time that preschool students have agreed to participate in an event for the fall festival.” 

After the brief meeting with the director, Celeste had a normal day. She went from class tpelass, took her two- hour break, during which Peter took the opportunity to visit her. She couldn’t find the words to explain to him that it wasn’t professional for him to be visiting her at work They were at the same café where he and Serenity had met the day before. Celeste was a bit tired, looking worn out. Peter noticed this and said: 

“I think I didn’t let you sleep well last night, did 1? 

“Don’t worry, you’ll make it up to me,” Celeste said casually, sipping her cinnamon–flavored coffee. 

“Tonight, I could give you a relaxing massage…” Peter said with a mischievous glint in his eye. 

Celeste’s cheeks flushed as she imagined where this might be going. 

“You said it yourself, you didn’t let me sleep last night. Are you planning to do the same today?” Celeste replied, 

both curious and nervous.
