Meanwhile, Theodore, who was on a business trip, received the messages from the parents‘ group, and his face went pale. He immediately called Peter, who had just begun his meeting. Peter was focused on the discussion but saw who was calling and answered. Theodore informed him that something had happened at Ethan’s school.
Peter stood up from the meeting and said, “Gentlemen, I have to leave. Something’s happened at my grandson’s school, and I need to go immediately. Feel free to order anything you like, I’ll cover the bill, but I must leave now.”
“Don’t worry, Mr. Palmer! Your grandson is a priority!”
Peter drove like a man possessed, trying to call Celeste. He wanted to know if his grandson was okay, and the only one who could give him firsthand news was her. But after several attempts, his heart told him that something truly bad had just happened.
Alden and Marcus met in the parking lot, and one of the drivers took them to the school. Alden tried contacting his father, wanting to let him know he was going to the school to see what had happened, but Peter didn’t answer any of his calls. The driver encountered heavy traffic as they left the building. Road construction was causing chaos on the road leading to the school.
“Ivan, please find another route, we need to get to the school as soon as possible.”
“Sir, I’ve tried, but this is really the only way. We just need to get through this stretch, and then it will be much faster.
Valerie was the first to arrive at the school. She walked through the long hallways toward the director’s office, noticing several parents leaving with their children. She thought it was just some exaggeration and that she’d pick up John and go home. Her cramps weren’t severe, but she couldn’t risk it. After another long hallway, she finally reached the director’s office. The secretary, who knew exactly who Valerie Bartz was, rushed to her and said, Ma’am, why did you come all the way here? You shouldn’t have worried so much, John is fine. In fact, he and Ethan are in the director’s office.”
The secretary’s words didn’t calm her. On the contrary, they made her more worried. “Let me accompany you; you look very tired.” Valerie reluctantly agreed, and the secretary took her arm and walked her to the director’s office. Once there, the secretary knocked on the door.
“Director, Mrs. Bartz just arrived.”
“Let her in, please. Let me know when Mr. Pietrovich arrives. He called me 10 minutes ago saying he’s close.” Valerie saw John and Ethan. It was obvious they had something wrong, but she couldn’t tell what. What was certain was that both kids looked like they had been crying John didn’t want to face his mom.
“John, my love, are you okay?” Valerie asked uncertainly.
“Yes, Mom…” John replied, embarrassed, with his head down.
“You’re fine, but Celeste isn’t!” Ethan said angrily.
“Ethan, please, we’ve already said it was a tragic accident. Miss Celeste will be fine, as soon as we have news, we’ll let you know. Please, calm down!” The director said, trying to calm the younger boy.
“What happened, Director? I only saw several messages in the parents‘ group, and the school has remained silent about the matter. They haven’t given any statement. Also, just saw other parents leave with their children, and I don’t understand why I’m waiting here with you.”
“Ma’am, Ethan’s father is about to arrive, well, his grandfather. He told me 10 minutes ago that he’s close. I want him to get here before I repeat everything again. Also, you look exhausted. You should sit down. Mr. Pietrovich
