Valerie stood up from her seat, eager to see who owned that familiar voice. Her surprise was immense when the secretary opened the door and a familiar figure, a familiar face, appeared before her. Valerie’s face turned pale, her eyes widened, and everything began to spin. Valerie almost collapsed to the floor, but the man managed to steady her. It was clear that she was visibly pregnant. Ethan and John were startled by Valerie’s reaction and rushed to help her. 

The director, seeing the children’s reaction, stood up from her desk and told the secretary to take them away and bring a first aid kit. Peter, on the other hand, carefully lifted Valerie’s limp body and gently laid her on the couch in the director’s office. In that moment, Peter didn’t think about what had just happened; all he cared about was holding the woman in front of him. 

The children, reluctantly, had to leave the director’s office. The secretary quickly placed a gauze soaked in alcohol on Valerie’s forehead. Slowly, Valerie regained consciousness. By the time she did, Marcus was holding her hand, and the blurry vision of Peter was no longer there. Peter and Alden were waiting outside the office. The man remained stoic, clearly knowing what was coming. Of all the ways he could have run into her again, he never imagined it would be like this. 

Suddenly, without meaning to, he overheard a conversation between the director’s secretary and one of the teachers. They were talking about how one of the injured people was Miss Johnson, and that she had apparently lost a lot of blood and had to be taken to the Westhaven Private Clinic by ambulance. Upon hearing this, Peter turned to the pair of women who were whispering. It was clear they wouldn’t tell him the truth as a parent, so, not caring what Celeste would think, he approached them and asked, “Ladies, I just overheard your conversation about the incident that brought us here. I unintentionally heard the name Celeste Johnson. What happened to her?

“Mr. Palmer, this is not something we should discuss with the parents. She is part of the staff, and we can only give information to her direct relatives.” 

“Ladies, I don’t think I’m explaining myself clearly. I want to know the health status of my partner. I’m her future spouse, and if you don’t give me the information I’m asking for, believe me, a lawsuit will be coming your way for not providing information about my future wife and for the negligence that is clearly evident here.” 

“Dad, calm down! I know you’re worried about Celeste, but we can’t take it that far.” 

“Mr. Palmer, I understand you’re upset, but we don’t need to resort to legal action. Our institution has never experienced anything like this, especially with preschool children. Please, come this way. I need to speak with you. In my office, I’ll give you all the details of the incident and tell you where Miss Johnson was taken.” The director said as she exited her office and bumped into a visibly angry Peter Palmer. 

The director, who had been temporarily filling in for the regular director, had already been warned that she should tread carefully when dealing with Mr. Pietrovich. He wasn’t just any wealthy man, he was someone with considerable political and social influence. 

It was clear that the secretary and the teacher hadn’t measured their words when speaking in front of him. Now, the director had to find the best way to handle the situation
