Valerie had been taken to Gemellia Hospital. She had to spend the night there as the little ones had been a bit restless. A hormonal change and severe gastritis had been causing contractions. Valerie’s diet had wreaked havoc on her stomach–on one hand, spicy foods, and on the other, very sweet foods. That was what was happening to her, but it was just a matter of one or two days of observation before she could be discharged. 

During the time alone in her room, Valerie used it to get lost in the memories of that lost love. It was clear that seeing and hearing the man from the previous day had made her uneasy. It was clear that the young man she had seen in the school office wasn’t Peter, but if it wasn’t him, then he was definitely connected to Ethan. 

“Valerie, my love? Hey!” Marcus said, waving a hand in front of her face. 

Valerie felt the hand and reacted. 

“Marcus… What’s going on?” 

“That’s what I was asking myself. I’ve been trying to get your attention for over five minutes, but you seemed lost. Valerie… What’s wrong?” 

“Nothing, my love, I’m just tired…” 

Marcus didn’t believe her response. He sensed where this attitude was coming from, remembering what had happened the day before. When Alden and Marcus were arriving at the director’s office, a thoughtful Peter had been holding Valerie in his arms, carefully placing her on the couch in that office. That man’s eyes were on his wife, and Marcus felt uncomfortable when he saw Peter place his hand on Valerie’s swollen belly. He just took a deep breath and made a sound in his throat 

It was clear that, no matter how much he said he didn’t remember Mary, deep down, Peter knew she was the woman who had once been the love of his life. 

“Valerie, Dr. Hill tells me that everything is fine and that you’ll just stay here for today. She’ll sign the discharge tomorrow. They’re giving you medication to control the gastritis, and she gave me a list of foods you must absolutely avoid. Unfortunately, spicy food is off the table. 

“Uh… but what if I… want it?” 

“Nothing, Mrs. Bartz. We must take care of you. Those cramps were actually contractions, we can’t risk it. The babies are only four months along.” 

“Alright! I’ll try. By the way, how is John? Is he more at eale?” 

“I haven’t been to the house, but I called, and Serenity answered. She said John was a bit sad because he fought with Ethan. Our son feels very guilty and wants to visit the miss, but with everything that happened yesterday, I didn’t ask where they took her, at least to thank her for saying our little one. I’ve been thinking about giving her a financial compensation. If she hadn’t been there, I can’t even imagine what could have happened to our son and his little friend.” 

“You’re right, Marcus! Find out which hospital she’s at, and when Dr. Hill discharges ine, we’ll go visit Miss Celeste.” 

“Yes, but for now, the most important thing is you, my love so try to relax and rest. The kids, Camille, and Emina will come in the afternoon, so take the opportunity to slee I’ll be here for anything you need.” 

“Marcus., Don’t you have to go to work?” 

“I’m taking the rest of the week off to be with you.”
