Peter, after Theodore helped him settle into bed, fell into a deep sleep. The man observed his friend and companion closely. The days Peter spent lying in the hospital felt like an eternity. Now that he was out of that place, those days seemed so distant. Theodore still remembered how he had to feed his friend, how clumsy he was at holding things, and how he had to learn to walk again. 

Theodore didn’t understand what might have triggered this it could be Celeste, Serenity, or even Valerie. One thing was certain: ever since he met Celeste two weeks ago, his friend had started exhibiting behaviors similar to when he was younger. He didn’t realize it, but Theodore, who had known him before, noticed it. 

“Could it be Celeste who triggered this?” Theodore said aloud. 

Peter was asleep, and in his dreams, he continued to hear voices from conversations he had had in the past. 

[“I know, my love, and I deeply regret it! But I don’t want you to hurt yourself. If something were to happen to either of you, I don’t know what I would do. You are my priority! I couldn’t live without you.” 

“That’s not it, my love! But if something were to happen to either of you, I don’t know what I would do.”

“It’s time to know what our baby is going to be!” 

“I understand, son, but it’s been years. Just as you and I have worked things out, you should try talking to Maximus.”

“I saw her! I remembered her!” Peter said through tears. “She was going to have a girl, our baby was going to be a girl… I never made it with the pizza…”

“Don’t hurt yourself like this, you didn’t know what was going to happen…” 

“I never got to feel how she moved, I wanted to feel her moving inside her…”

No matter how hard he tried, Peter could only see Mary in his mind. His Mary, that girl who had become a woman with a swollen belly, who ate slices of cake without caring how many pounds she gained, that woman who would get up at 3:00 am to eat something because she was truly hungry and then fall asleep on the living room sofa.
