Chapter 0514
Valerie remained in her bedroom, replaying her conversation with Camille in her mind. She hadn’t realized her behavior had been so noticeable. All she could think about was the face of Peter, the man she believed she’d seen. A deep remorse began to settle in her heart. She couldn’t bear the thought that she was causing Marcus pain. He didn’t deserve her coldness, especially after everything he had done to care for her with such patience and devotion.
She’d ignored him during the entire drive home, and still, Marcus had remained attentive, supportive, and loving
Determined to make amends, Valerie got out of bed and went to Marcus’s study. It was time to talk. She braced herself, knowing it would be a difficult and painful conversation. What she didn’t expect was to find her husband already deep in one.
Distracted, she entered the study without knocking, something she rarely did. What she saw froze her in place: Camille hugging Marcus, who looked utterly broken. A sharp, painful pang stabbed her chest.
“Marcus valerie stammered, her eyes welling with tears
Camille stepped back, releasing Marcus from her embrace. She smiled softly at Valerie and said, “I’ll leave you two alone. You have a lot to talk about.” She gave Marcus’s shoulder a supportive squeeze as she walked out.

“Good morning, my love. How are you feeling?” Peter asked as he noticed Celeste waking up.
Peter couldn’t help but marvel at her beauty. Her gaze captivated him more each day. He couldn’t wait to take her home. He had already prepared her room, though in his heart, he hoped she’d agree to share his.
He was a man who knew what he wanted and wasn’t easily deterred. Meeting Celeste had been a turning point in his recovery. In many ways, he credited her for helping him regain his memories, even though she had no idea of her role in his journey. For that and other reasons–far more profound–he had made a monumental decision that very day.
He wanted to spend his days and nights with her. He was ready to give her everything she could ever want, though he wouldn’t reveal his intentions just yet. Having her live in his house would give him the chance to win her over, care for her, and eventually, marry her.
Part of his reasoning was rooted in Mary. He needed to put emotional and physical distance between them, and Celeste was the perfect answer. She was stunning, cultured, kind, and calm–the ideal companion for the rest of his life. He had felt a genuine attraction to her even before his memories returned, and that hadn’t changed.
For Peter, that was enough. Celeste was the perfect woman, the one he wanted to spend his remaining years with The only question was whether she’d feel the same.
Deep down, he knew it was a bold move. A small voice inside him warned that not everything would go as planned. But he silenced it with conviction. ‘I let a chance at happiness slip away over 20 years ago. This time, I won’t.”
“I’m fine. I just felt a little cold earlier…. now I see why,” Celeste replied, gazing at him with her warm, wide eyes.
Peter sat on the edge of her bed, positioning himself directly in front of her. Gently, he cupped the back of her neck and pulled her closer for a kiss.
Celeste’s walls–ones she had built over eight long years of widowhood–were slowly crumbling. For the first time since losing her husband, she was opening herself up to someone new. And Peter wasn’t just anyone.
