His mind was in chaos. Fate was giving him the chance to think through his words and actions. This morning, he hadn’t known what to say. Now, he had time to figure it out–but his thoughts were interrupted by a phone call. 

“Peter, are you in Valentia?” 

“Matthew, yes, why?” 

“Damn it, Peter! Stop screwing things up and get out of the country. Maximus is trying to fix everything, and you keep making it worse. Don’t you see that your presence complicates things? Your father was arrested today! The Levett family has seized the company. Luckily, Marcus Bartz had already signed over all the rights to your father. Otherwise, he’d be in the same mess.” 

“Celeste doesn’t know about any of this. I never told her, and now she’s in Valentia. If I leave her here, Frank might find her and force me to give in.” 

“Peter, your father’s ambition caught up with him, and now he’ll bear the consequences. Maximus has already cleared up the matter of the transferred shares with Marcus. He’s met with Mary, too, and knows the children are safe. But I’m worried about you. Frank is dangerous, and I don’t know how much power he still has. Just let me know when you’re out of the country. That damn family should have been dealt with long ago instead of playing this cat–and–mouse game.” 

“Have you located Lucius?” 

“No, Peter. And because of that, we haven’t found his mother either. Just take care of yourself and stop making more mistakes. If you need to tell Celeste everything, do it but get out of the country.” 

“Marcus… Celeste is pregnant, and she thinks I’m with someone else. I’m trying to talk to her, but she refuses to listen.” 

“You should’ve thought this through before getting involved with Mary. Look at the mess you’re in now. If Alexia shows up, you’re done for.” 

“I’ve told you before, and I’ll say it again: my grandson and Mary’s children were in danger. I didn’t see another option. Now they’re safe, and once Marcus and Mary arrive with them, I’ll feel at ease. But right now, my biggest concern is Celeste. I wasn’t expecting the news she gave me.” 

“Peter, just remember that you’re not alone anymore, and things have changed. Maximus is your brother, and he’ll always look out for the family. I may be old, but your brother is wise, and I trust he knows what he’s doing.” 

“Thanks, Matthew. I know Maximus can handle this, but in the meantime, I need to take care of Celeste. I can’t leave her alone, especially not with Frank after me and looking for his daughter.”
