“What?” 

“Her grandfather Albert’s ashes. Catherine had them, and when she passed, I took care of them. I keep them in a columbarium near what are supposedly Peter’s ashes.” 

“Why didn’t you ever say anything?” 

“Why would I?” 

“They don’t belong to you 

“I know! But there was no way to return them, and as far as I remember, you forbade me from going near her. So there wasn’t any point. If you want them now, I’ll be the one to give them to her. But back to the point–it’s best you don’t tell her anything about her father or her aunt. That’s all in the past. 

“For once, you’re making sense.” 

“Good. I’m glad you understand and agree with that part. Now, I think we’re all tired, and we should call it a day. You, well, Frederick should keep you in check, but I’ve got things to do. My family is waiting for me. And honestly, the hangover I had this morning is nothing compared to what could happen if all this comes to light.” 

“Maximus, don’t take this so lightly. We need to make a plan-” 

“I know! But first, we need to process and analyze everything. Once we’re calmer, we’ll regroup. Right now, we’d only stress ourselves out more. Besides, I don’t know about you, but I’m starving, and I need some sleep.” 

Maximus’s calm demeanor surprised the other three men. It was as if he already knew what to do but didn’t want to share it with anyone. 

“Send me a copy with Matthew. I’ll read every file carefully and figure out what we can do. But Marcus, one thing is clear the sooner you distance yourself from the company, the better. I’ll talk to Alden and suggest the same. That company needs to be free of all of us, I know my father He’s up to something. He wouldn’t just leave like that. He’s waiting for something. What? I don’t know. But he’s waiting.” 

Maximus left Matthew’s house and drove home. When he arrived, he was surprised to see Serenity and Laura in the living room, chatting while the kids watched a horror movie. 

“Serenity, what are you doing here?” 

“Hi, Maximus! I came to keep my brothers company. They were all alone…” 

Maximus smiled faintly and said, “Poor things, they were so lonely. Don’t believe a word of it.” 

“Yeah, Dad! Serenity took care of us, and we’ve been watching movies all afternoon,” Maurice said, running to hug his father. 

“And your homework?” 

“Serenity already checked it. I won a bet, so we watched horror movies,” Paul answered without taking his eyes 

off the TV. 

Maximus gave Serenity a confused look, raising an eyebrow 

“The boys needed some company, and since you decided to drop your reservations, I thought it was necessary to be here all day,” Serenity said. 

“Serenity, that’s fine, but does that mean you didn’t go to university?”
