Chapter 0571
Now, do you want my opinion? I think you haven’t matured You claim to love, but you can’t let go. I know your story, Valerie. I know you were married to Maximus, and when I heard from Peter himself how he treated you, I felt sorry for you. Young, naive, inexperienced, and without family–you were all alone. No one to look out for you. You had the chance to be with Peter, but you didn’t take it. Fine. That was a mistake, and we all make them when we’re young
Then you were separated from Peter. But, as I said, no one put a gun to your head and forced you to marry Marcus. You made that choice yourself.”
“Yes, but Peter was dead…”
“I don’t blame you,” Theodore said gently. “I’m just saying you’ve made your choices consciously, and you’ve faced them wisely because you’re a good woman. So why are you willing to throw all of that away? For the illusion of an old love? Let’s be realistic, Valerie. Do you truly love Peter, or do you love the memory of what you both once had? People change–every day, every year, with every experience. I can guarantee you, the Peter you just saw isn’t the same man you remember. Twenty years is a long time, don’t you think?”
“I’m not judging you. I just want you to understand something–your reaction isn’t fair. I know it’s a shock to find out Peter is alive. Life isn’t fair; sometimes it doesn’t treat us well. But life goes on. No one understands that better than Peter. He realized it when he saw you happy, when he saw you had a new life, when he saw who you were with. He’s never wanted to hurt you. Haven’t you been happy all these years? Has Marcus ever treated you badly?”
Valerie’s eyes filled with tears. Theodore wasn’t trying to humiliate her, but that’s how she felt. She felt like an idiot, like the naïve little girl she had been so many years ago. His words cut deep, striking a part of her she didn’t want to confront.
She couldn’t stop thinking about the man she had seen that morning. Knowing he had left the country left a gaping hole in her chest. She felt like she couldn’t breathe, like everything was spinning. She was having a panic attack. Her breathing became labored.
Theodore stood from his seat and brought her a glass of water. She tried to speak but could only gasp, “I can’t.. breathe…” He fanned her face and tried to calm her.
“My chest… it hurts… it hurts…” Valerie repeated, clutching her chest.
“Dear God,” Theodore muttered, pulling out his phone and dialing emergency services.
He picked her up and carried her to a bedroom, laying her down gently. One of the household staff assisted by fanning her face, trying to help her catch her breath. Valerie was cold and clammy, shivering as beads of sweat formed on her forehead. The ambulance arrived quickly, and the paramedics rushed to her side. It was clear she was suffering from a nervous breakdown.
Her bodyguards, alarmed by the scene, had no choice but to force their way into Peter’s house. They were met with what felt like a nightmare: the woman they were supposed to protect being wheeled out to the ambulance. They could only pray they’d be spared their boss’s wrath.
The head bodyguard hesitated before making the inevitable call. He had to report what happened.
“Sir, we’ve been here waiting for Mrs, Bartz to come out, bet we became concerned when paramedics arrived at the house. I regret to inform you that she’s being taken to the hospital.”
“What? The hell are you saying? Aren’t you paid to protect her?!” Marcus roared.
“Sir, we waited for her to leave, but in the end, we had to go in. One of our men is with her in the ambulance. It

seems she had a nervous breakdown.”
“Where are they taking her?!”
“To the hospital where you usually take her. I made sure of it.”
“I’m on my way!”
Frederick and Matthew, who had been silently observing Marcus’s outburst, watched as he grabbed his coat and stormed out, furious.
