Chapter 0572
Chapter 0572
Laura walked alongside her father, her eyes and nose red. Her greenish–gray eyes were clouded with emotion, a haze of tears she was struggling to hold back. Serenity had told her to face the hard things quickly, like ripping off a Band–Aid. The day had been anything but easy, and Laura knew she had to confront the future, whatever it might hold. Her sister had promised she wouldn’t be alone, and that thought gave her some comfort.
She felt a slight pain in her hip and abdomen but chose to keep it to herself. Walking slowly, her face tilted downward, hiding the faint mark on her lip that her father hadn’t noticed.
Maximus placed a large, comforting hand on Laura’s back, gently guiding her into the study, Serenity, who had. refused to leave, was worried about how the man might react to what Laura was about to tell him. Watching them walk toward the study filled her chest with a sense of unease she couldn’t explain.
“Sweetheart, tell me. What’s going on? What did you want to talk about?”
“Dad…” Laura’s voice cracked as tears welled up in her eyes, making it hard for her to speak.
Maximus, alarmed, stepped in front of her and pulled her into a hug. “What’s wrong, my love? Are you in pain? Should we go to the hospital? Are you feeling sick? Is something wrong with the baby?
“Dad, I don’t deserve your kindness… I’ve been so foolish, so stupid…” Laura sobbed, burying her face in her father’s chest.
“Laura, what’s going on? You’re scaring me. Please, calm down. It hurts me to see you like this. Just yesterday, despite everything, you seemed at peace. What happened?
“Dad… my… my boyfriend…” she managed to stammer between sobs.
Laura was still just a frightened girl. Until yesterday, she’d believed her world would be different. But this morning, everything had fallen apart. Even Maximus had been forced to go to her school.
“Laura, sweetheart… You need to calm down. This could hurt your baby,” Maximus said, his voice thick with
worry.
“Dad…” Laura whimpered.
“Alright, here’s what we’ll do. Would it help if Serenity were here? If she’s with us, would you feel more comfortable?”
Laura pulled her head back from his chest and nodded firmly.
“Alright. Give me a minute–I’ll get her.”
Maximus loosened his embrace and left the study to fetch Serenity. It was the only solution he could think of to help calm his daughter. If anyone knew what was wrong, it would be Serenity
“Serenity, could you come to the study for a moment?” Maximus asked, his concern evident.
Serenity understood immediately. She got up from the couch and followed him.
“Serenity, do you know what’s going on with Laura?” he asked, his curiosity mingled with worry.
“I think it’s better if she tells you. I’ll be there to support her, but she should be the one to explain,” Serenity replied, avoiding giving away any details.
“Alright, Laura. Serenity’s here now. You can tell me whatever it is. I promise I won’t say anything to upset you, but I’m worried about you and the baby.”
Chapter 0572
“Laura, you need to tell Maximus what happened. I’m here with you for support, and you know that,” Serenity said in a soothing tone.
“Dad… the father of my baby… doesn’t want it. He doesn’t want the baby! He wants me to have an abortion!” Laura cried, burying her face in her hands, her sobs wracking her body.
Serenity immediately wrapped her arms around Laura, comforting her as she broke down. Maximus let out a deep sigh, exhaling slowly as he struggled to keep his composure. He already knew the man she was referring to–if he could even be called a man.
[Earlier that morning at Clearmount College]
“Hi, Adrian!” Laura greeted, her face lighting up with a wide smile.
“Hey, gorgeous! How’s the most beautiful woman in the world?” Adrian replied, planting a kiss on her that left her breathless.
“I’m good. Hey, I need to talk to you about something–but privately,” Laura whispered in his ear.
“Okay…” Adrian responded, assuming it was something playful.
Without a clue of what Laura was about to tell him, Adrian stepped away from his group of friends and led her to a secluded spot where no one could see them. Once there, he immediately began kissing her and letting his hands wander, thinking that was what she wanted.
