“Haha, you don’t even know who I am, do you? 

“No, and I don’t care. I’m not naïve; my future husband surely had many lovers, but today, we’re uniting our lives forever, and you’ll be left in the past 

“Oh, Mary, you’re almost cute. I want you to remember this: I’m Alexia Levett, and I’m Maximus’s personal assistant. He and I work together every single day. You’ll just be the devoted little wife, while I’m the one working side by side with him. He’s only arrying you to please his grandmother. Everything he’s doing is so I can stay at Palmer Group. Don’t forget that.” Alexia said this as she grabbed Mary’s chin. 

The pain of that grip and the cruel words Alexia had spoken made tears well up in Mary’s beautiful almond eyes. 

“Get the hell out! Leave me alone!” 

At the sound of Mary’s shouting, her grandmother and Emma, who had been coming to deliver the earrings her grandfather had sent, rushed in. They found Alexia holding Mary’s chin. Grandma was ready to strike the woman in front of her, but Emma held her back, reminding her it wasn’t worth ruining Mary’s day because of this woman. 

“Miss Levett, are you deaf? You heard my granddaughter–get out! Or I’ll have you thrown out. 

Alexia released Mary’s chin and said, “Maximus loves me, and he always will. You only came between us, but know this: if I called him right now and told him I’m waiting outside, he’d leave you at the altar for me.” 

Emma, normally calm and composed, gathered her courage and grabbed Alexia by the arm. 

“Miss Levett, don’t push your luck. Leave now,” Emma said as she escorted her out of the room. 

Once outside, they encountered Leopold, and Emma spoke to him. 

“Leopold, please escort Miss Levett to the exit and ensure that security doesn’t let her back in under any circumstances.” 

“Yes, Emma. Miss…” Leopoldo said, gesturing for Alexia to follow him. 

Back in Mary’s room, they found a broken girl. She was crying uncontrollably, her makeup ruined, and saying she didn’t want to get married, that this was all a mistake. She felt humiliated, hurt. She had suspected Maximus had been involved with someone when she left Valeria, but when he proposed, she assumed that relationship had ended, not that the woman worked with him and that the marriage was a cover to protect her. 

“Grandma, I don’t want to get married. I’m leaving. I don’t belong here. I never should have left Gaeta. I was better off there.” 

“No, sweetheart, this is where you belong. That tramp is just messing with your head.” 

“Grandma, I made a mistake. Maximus feels obligated because of what happened at his house, and that’s why he proposed.”
