It had been a month since Maximus found out his daughter was pregnant, a month since Diana Mendez had arrived in Valentia, a damn month since he had learned the whole truth. Since that long day at Frederick’s house, no one had spoken again. Marcus Bartz had left the Palmer Group, and Alden Palmer, albeit reluctantly, had also distanced himself from his inheritance. Since they had no office, Alden spent most of his time at Maximus’s house, allowing Ethan to spend more time with Maurice. Serenity’s visits to Maximus’s house had also become more frequent. Laura needed more support, and Serenity did too. Things at home weren going well, and her response to everything she was feeling was to flee. She spent several days at Maximus’s house. 

Maximus noticed Serenity spending more time there, but he didn’t want to make her feel pressured, so he kept quiet and just observed. Secretly, he began preparing a room for her. Some nights, she stayed in Laura’s room, but if things continued like this, once the baby was born, she wouldn’t have anywhere to stay. So, without saying a word, he hired a company to renovate some unused rooms. He did the same for Alden and Ethan since Ald worked late and didn’t like driving tired, so he would crash on the study couch, and Ethan would stay with Maurice.
