Chapter 0674
Serenity’s P.O.V
I didn’t know Alden’s mother. He rarely talked about her, as if he didn’t want me to intrude on that intimate part of his life. But I knew he loved and adored her. I had heard him talking to her, and every time he did, his expression changed. There was no doubt he was Peter’s son their faces were so alike. But every feature that didn’t match? I was sure those must have come from his mother.
It had been a month since we became a couple, and every time I saw him, I felt butterflies in my stomach. Our nighttime escapes used to be once or twice a week, but now they were every day.
That day was special–it was our one–month anniversary. Alden had told me to get ready and look even more beautiful than I already was. That line had made me feel a little strange. I had no idea what he was planning, but he had been out all day.
Emma had seen me and smiled. She hadn’t said anything, but I knew she suspected something was going on between Alden and me. Meanwhile, Laura was still suffering from annoying nausea at almost five months pregnant. Poor thing couldn’t keep anything down, yet at dinner, she devoured whatever she saw.
My little brother missed Mom and Dad sometimes, but Alden always found a way to make him smile. Ethan and John were still best friends and had built a little routine to enjoy their time there. Maurice sometimes joined them, but he was more of a loner. He loved to draw–and he was really good at it. He said he preferred to be alone because it inspired him. He was such an interesting kid. Every time I saw him, I couldn’t deny how much he looked like Maximus.
Then there was young Paul, who had managed to win over that girl, Amina. She was a lovely kid, and I really liked her. Lately, every time I looked at Paul, I wondered what he’d be like in ten years. He was bound to steal a lot of hearts—he was a very handsome young man. He didn’t look like Maximus, though. He must have taken after his mother. He had a heart of gold and was incredibly smart. He was doing distance learning and had gotten excellent grades. Numbers seemed to be his thing.
I couldn’t believe it had been a little over a month since we arrived there. Alden had told us that Mom had to deliver the twins prematurely but that they were okay. Dad on the other hand, was still in jail. The case was all over the news, and he hadn’t been able to file an appeal. But he had people looking into it to counter the accusations and get him released.
I really hoped everything would turn out okay. We’d wanted to go back, but Peter was adamant–it wasn’t the right time. My heart ached when I thought of my little siblings alone with Mom. She and Camille were taking care of them, but they must have needed help.
Serenity was deep in thought as she got ready in secret to leave her room. The lights were already out, and the kids had taken their baths and gone to bed. She almost gave up on the idea when Alden didn’t even show up for dinner. But everything changed when she received a text from him
