Chapter 0678
Chapter 0678
Peter was sitting in the wide chair behind his elegant desk, his gaze distant. No matter how hard he tried to think about something else–anything but Mary–nothing workedt. Guilt consumed him. In the same house was the woman he had once felt so at ease with just months ago.
At times, he cursed himself. He should never have crossed paths with Celeste. She was a good woman, one who had suffered so much in her life. He couldn’t let her down now. But in his heart, there was only Mary.
No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t think of any woman but her. His mind was torn between what he wanted and what he should do. A month ago, he had visited Valentia and spoken with Mary. That conversation left a thor lodged in his heart. She had told him she still loved him.
“Peter? Are you there?” Celeste’s voice snapped him back to the present as she tried to get his attention.
“Hi, beautiful! What’s up?”
“I’m heading to my therapy session. Are you busy? If you are, I can ask Brock to take me.”
“Oh, I’m sorry! I completely forgot. I’ve been so swamped with work that it slipped my mind. But don’t worry- I’ll take you. When’s your appointment?”
“In 20 minutes…”
“We’ll get there in 15.”
Peter scooped Celeste up in his arms, and as he did, the delicate scent of freesia wafted from her skin, the same fragrance he had gifted her.
He remembered that day vividly–taking her to the mall. She had been drawn to a perfume, sniffing it several times with interest, only to put it back on the shelf. Then she wheeled herself away in her chair. Peter had bought it quietly while she wasn’t looking, slipping the small bag onto her lap later. Her surprised smile and tear–filled eyes made it all worth it.
After helping Celeste into the passenger seat, Peter walked around to the driver’s side as Boyko loaded her wheelchair. Soon, they were on the road.
“Peter, be more careful! You could get a ticket,” Celeste scolded nervously.
“Relax, beautiful! It’s fine. We’ll make it to your appointment on time–that’s what matters.”
The therapy session went smoothly. Celeste was making great progress. Though she still used her wheelchair for safety, she was already cleared to walk with crutches. However, she felt more confident with the chair. Peter supported her patiently, helping her with her exercises at home, always treating her with love and care.
When Celeste first met Peter, she’d had her doubts. But living with him day by day, she found herself feeling something unexpected–a growing affection for the man who showered her with kindness and attention.
“Peter, I know you’re busy. If you want, you can leave me in the garden and get back to work. I don’t want to take up your time. You’ve seemed really stressed lately, probably with work. You’ve already taken me to my appointment, so go and take care of your things.”
“Not today. I want to rest! How about we go to the bedroom? I feel like lying down with you for a while.”
“Are you sure?”
“Positive!”
Celeste felt a wave of calm settle over her. She loved these quiet moments with

stroking her face and hair until she drifted off to sleep.
But this time was different. Peter began kissing her, deeply and tenderly, in a way he never had before. The sensation was strange but pleasant.
“Peter, wait… wait…” Celeste murmured, gently pulling back.
“What’s wrong?” he asked, frowning slightly.
“I like what you’re doing, but with the accident and the move, I stopped taking my pills, and I’m not being careful.”
“Oh, I see. I think we should find a good doctor here who can prescribe you something. What do you think? For now, come here we can just cuddle.”
