Maximus opened the door, greeting Peter with a wary smile. 

“Hello, brother! How are you? I’m good, and you?” 

“Cut the formalities, Maximus. Let’s get to the point.” 

“Fine, fine. Come in.” 

Peter stepped inside and glanced around. “Diana’s not home yet?” 

“No, but she’ll be back soon. Now tell me–what’s this idea you’ve come up with?” 

“Alright, but I’ll warn you, you might not like it. Still, it’s our best shot.” 

Maximus crossed his arms, leaning against the wall. “Go on, let’s hear it. Then I’ll tell you if I agree or not.”

“Well,” Peter began, a slight edge to his tone, “what if we propose to Frank that he drop the charges against Marcus in exchange for Alexia?” 

Maximus’s expression darkened, his eyes narrowing as if he wanted to tear his brother apart. 

“You’re insane!” 

“No, listen. She’s his daughter. He should be the one taking care of her, not us. We can use her as leverage.‘ 

Maximus’s jaw tightened. “It’s not as simple as you’re making it sound, Peter.” 

“And why wouldn’t it be?” 

“Because my son is taking care of her.” 

• “Lucius?” 

“Yes. He’s stepped up, and he won’t let her go so easily–especially after everything we’ve learned about Frank Levett Sr.” 

“Well, that’s the plan I have, and I’m going to use it.” 

“No, Peter! You need to drop that insane idea and leave the woman alone.” 

“Are you defending her now?” 

“No! I just don’t want my son caught in the middle of this. I barely have a relationship with him as it is. I don’t even know if he’ll ever see me as his father. But if we hand over Alexia, I’ll lose whatever slim chance I have left.” 

“For God’s sake, Maximus! You can’t be so selfish. We need to use Alexia to make the trade.” 

“I’ve already told you, I don’t agree with this.” 

“Fine,” Peter said, rising abruptly from the sofa. “If you won’t help me, I’ll handle it myself.” 

Peter turned toward the door, but Maximus grabbed his arm, stopping him. “Wait!” 

Before he could say more, Peter pressed his hands to his head, grimacing in pain. 

“Damn it!” 

“What’s wrong, Peter?”

“This damn headache… It’s been bothering me for days, and it just won’t go away.” 

“You need to see a doctor,” Maximus insisted. “Please, let me help you.” 

“You can’t help me…” 

“Peter, listen to me. You can’t keep living like this. You need to admit that regaining your memory has done more harm than good.” 

“I just want Mary to be happy!” Peter shouted, his voice breaking. 

“She’ll be fine! But you–you need help. She has people taking care of her, but you… You’re alone. Don’t try to tell me Celeste knows anything about this, because I know she doesn’t.” 

Peter slumped back onto the sofa, his hands still cradling his head. Maximus walked to the kitchen, filled a glass with water, and handed it to him. Peter drank it slowly, then leaned back against the cushions, his face pale and drawn. 

At that moment, the front door opened, and Diana stepped inside, startled by the sight of Peter on the sofa.
