Chapter 0685
Maximus heard rustling before Theodore came back on the line.
“His doctor works at the Silverstone Clinic. His name is Dr. Wagner. Write this number down and tell him you’re calling on my behalf. Maximus, if you need me to come, just say the word. Peter has had episodes like this before, but I’ve always been able to manage them. He trusts me.

“Thank you, Theodore! Honestly, I’d appreciate it if you could come as soon as possible. You know his history and everything he’s been through better than I do. I can only keep him company and monitor him, but you understand his condition.”
“Understood. Go to the Westhaven house and get his medical files. They’re in the study, locked in the safe. I’ll notify the staff to grant you access. That file contains everything from his accident. Let me know once you have it, and I’ll head over.”
Maximus hung up and immediately called Dr. Wagner. The doctor insisted that Peter be brought to the hospital without delay. Without wasting time, Maximus and Diana helped Peter into the car and drove him to the clinic.
Diana stayed by Peter’s side as he slept, her concern growing with every passing moment. Meanwhile, Maximus went to Peter’s house in Westhaven. After gaining access to the study, he retrieved a large folder filled with medical records and reports detailing his brother’s condition.
An hour later, Peter woke up, startled to find himself in a hospital room. His panic set off an alarm, and three nurses rushed in to calm him, administering a sedative to help him relax. Once his breathing slowed and his agitation subsided, he noticed the woman sitting nearby.
“Who are you?” he asked groggily.

“My name is Diana–Diana Mendez. I’m…”
“Ah, I know who you are. You’re Maximus’s girlfriend. Where’s my brother?”
“He left me here to look after you. He went to your house to retrieve your medical records. Apparently, we need them.”
Peter leaned back against the pillow, closing his eyes for a moment. “There’s not much they can do…”
“What do you mean?”
Peter exhaled deeply. “Dr. Wagner already knows.”
“Knows what?” Diana’s concern deepened.
Maybe it was the sedative, or maybe Diana’s presence felt safe, but Peter made a startling confession.
“Months ago, I visited Dr. Wagner. He ran scans of my brain. He was optimistic at first because my recovery had been slow but steady. But after examining me further, he found that I’d lost too much in the accident, Diana.”
“What do you mean, Peter?”
“There are parts of my brain that didn’t heal–parts that will never recover. Most, if not all, of those areas involve my memories…”
“But you’ve been remembering things,” Diana said, confused.

“I try to piece things together. Sometimes memories surface, but just as quickly, they slip away. Dr. Wagner told me my brain is damaged. He said I’m not well.”
“Does your family know about this?” Diana asked, her voice trembling.
“No!” Peter snapped, his voice firm. “They can’t know. My brain could shut down at any moment. They call it brain death.”
“Peter…”
