Chapter 0701
Alden couldn’t sleep after Serenity’s words echoed in his mind: “We love you too!” He kept glancing at her as she cuddled Adele, replaying the moment in his head. He wasn’t naive, and one thought kept nagging at him, though he wasn’t sure how to process it.
When Serenity woke up after a long nap, Alden was nowhere in the room. He’d gone to the living room to spend time with Ethan. John, Ethan, and Alden were roughhousing on the couch when Serenity walked in.
“What are you up to?” she asked with a smile.
“We’re trying to take Dad down, but he’s too strong!” Ethan declared as he launched himself at Alden.
The time spent in the Maldives had clearly strengthened the bond between Alden and Ethan. Even with Alden managing his businesses remotely and handling tasks that Theodore assigned him, he still made time for his son. Life felt calmer, more balanced.
Serenity stood watching them, convinced that Alden would make an amazing father for their future child. The only question was how to tell him the news.
Since Adele’s birth, their nights had been sleepless, and they barely had time to talk. Their relationship was still a secret, developing quietly during the late hours when everyone else was asleep. They hadn’t yet felt comfortable making their love public.
“Serenity, want some dinner?” Alden asked, balancing both kids on his lap.
“Have you eaten already?” she asked, unsure.
“These little monsters have, but I was waiting for you.”
“Alright, let’s eat–I’m starving!”
“Okay, kids, time to take a bath and get to bed. You’ve been playing all day and need to rest.”
“Can we see Adele first?”
“Of course. She’s with Laura, getting fed,” Serenity replied, heading toward the kitchen.
“Great! Let’s go, John!” Ethan shouted, and both boys sprinted toward Laura’s room, eager to see their niece.
“Don’t run! You’re going to fall!” Alden called after them.
“Let them be,” Serenity said with a laugh. “They’re not going to listen to you anyway.”
In the kitchen, Serenity was about to warm up some food when Alden gently grabbed her wrist and pulled her
close.
“Earlier, you said something that’s been on my mind. What did you mean by ‘We love you too‘?”
“Did I say that?” Serenity replied, feigning ignorance.
“Yes, Serenity, you did. And I think I know what it means.‘
“What do you think it means?” she asked, a small smile forming on her lips.
Alden pulled her closer, tilting her chin up to meet his gaze
“You’re pregnant, aren’t you?”
Serenity felt a chill run down her spine. His penetrating gaze made it clear he wouldn’t let her dodge the question.
Chapter 0701
“Alden… I…”
“You are, aren’t you?”
“Yes,” she admitted softly.
Without hesitation, Alden pulled her into a tight embrace.
“We’re going to have a baby! Serenity, you’re going to be the most beautiful mother ever,” he said, planting a warm kiss on her lips and gently stroking her hair.
“Are you not upset?”
Frowning, Alden asked, “Why would I be upset?”
“Because we were supposed to be careful.”
“Well, technically, I was the one being careful. Something must’ve failed. If anyone should feel responsible, it’s me. But you, my love–how are you feeling?”
“I’m fine, really. Just a little overwhelmed, I guess.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes. If there’s anyone I’d want to have a baby with, it’s you. I love you, Alden, and you love me. That’s all we
need, right?”
“Exactly,” he said with a smile.
Serenity gave him a playful grin. “I think this is the year of babies–first my brothers, then Adele, and now our little one on the way.”
