Everything she had endured while he wasn’t by her side weighed on him. But no more. He wouldn’t let Valerie face any more hardships alone. She was the love of his life, and he couldn’t bear to see her suffer any longer. 

“Valerie!” Marcus called out, his voice warm and familiar. 

Valerie’s heart skipped a beat at the sound of his voice. Turning quickly, she saw him. For a moment, she thought her mind was playing tricks on her, but when she blinked, he was still there. 

“Marcus?” 

“Yes, my love, it’s me.” 

Valerie stood up and ran to him, throwing her arms around him. Marcus held her tightly, lifting her off the ground as he kissed her–a kiss he had longed to give her for months. Tears welled up in Valerie’s eyes as she clung to 

him. 

“Marcus… You’re here… here…” she whispered, her hands trembling as they touched his face. 

“Yes, my love, I’m here. I’m here for you. And you can’t imagine how much I’ve missed you.” 

Overcome with emotion, Valerie’s voice wavered. “Marcus. I thought… I thought I’d never see you again. I’ve been so scared here…” 

“You have nothing to fear anymore. I’m here, and we’ll wait until you finish your treatment. After that, we’ll leave. We’ll go back to Hesperia. We need some time on the beach, don’t you think? Everything will go back to normal. The babies are beautiful–you’ll see them soon!” 

“I’ve missed them so much! Camille brings them to visit me once a month, and I cherish those moments, but I just want to go home.” 

“My love, I’d take you home right now if I could, but we need to finish your treatment. When you leave here, it won’t be temporary–it’ll be for good. Just a month and a half more.” 

“Marcus… I’ve missed you so much. I just want to go home. I know I’ll be fine.” 

“Nothing would make me happier, but we can’t rush this. Let’s finish what we’ve started, so we don’t leave anything unresolved. Now tell me, how have they been treating you here? How have you felt?” 

“Good, really good. Dr. Hill has been amazing. Camille visits sometimes and brings the babies, and Maximus has been keeping an eye on me. He visits often, and we talk a lot. He’s helped me a lot through this process.” 

Hearing Maximus’s name, Marcus felt a spark of irritation. He didn’t know the full extent of what had happened while he was gone, but the idea of Maximus being so involved didn’t sit well with him. 

“Valerie, why is Maximus visiting you?” 

“Marcus, don’t start. He’s been incredibly supportive. He’s a good man, and he cares about me. Besides, Peter is also under Dr. Hill’s care. I don’t know why, but she’s treating him too.” 

“Peter? He’s here?”
