“And Marcus? Where is your husband?” Maximus asked, doubtful. 

“Maximus… Can you help me?” Valerie responded without wanting to give any details. 

“Of course! Let me talk to Matthew, he’s the only one who can help me send someone. I can find you a hotel to stay at…” 

“Thank you…” 

Maximus paused for a moment in silence. He knew something had gone wrong, and part of it was his fault. 

“No problem…. We’ll send someone for you shortly.” 

“Thank you, Maximus…” Valerie said in a subdued tone. 

After finishing the call, Maximus sighed. At that precise moment, he was dealing with a group of reporters who had gathered outside the building where he currently lived with Diana. He was trying to manage the journalists, and to add to the stress, a few officers had arrived at his apartment to take him to the station just as Valerie was calling. 

“Mr. Palmer, we know you have contact with your brother, and we need you to cooperate with the authorities. You must remember that covering for him could bring severe consequences.” 

“Gentlemen, I’m telling you, Peter Palmer is not here. If It’s already on TV where he is, why are you coming to my girlfriend’s house to disrupt her peace? My brother and I haven’t spoken in a long time, and both you and I are surprised by this news.” 

Maximus knew that by the time the Florentine authorities arrived, Peter would have already been taken out of the country. He just needed to buy enough time and hope Peter didn’t have a crisis in the meantime. 

Meanwhile, Marcus arrived at the warehouse where Frank Levett Sr. had been earlier that day. 

“Michael, tell me the damn statement has been signed… 

“We had to get creative with him, but yes… he signed it. The man is on his way to his final destination.”
