“What you need to do now is figure out what you want for your future. To be honest, I’m surprised by Marcus’s reaction. Of course, he’s angry, but you’re his wife! You were admitted to a psychiatric hospital, for God’s sake! Did he not see that? 

“You really need to think about whether this is the man you want for yourself, the man you want to spend the rest of your life with. Do you want to be with someone who abandons you at your most vulnerable? Think about it, because from what I’ve seen, you’ve needed him, and he hasn’t been there for you…” 

Valerie stared at him, unsure of what to say. One thing was clear–if she was being honest with herself, there was truth in Maximus’s words. Since they had arrived in Valentia and the problems had started, Marcus had left her alone more than once. His reactions were unpredictable. 

Back in Hesperia, Marcus had been a completely different man from the one she was now facing. The loving, warm, and level–headed man she had known was slipping away in Valentia.
