“Dad, it’s such a shame you can’t come. The whole family will be together. They planned everything as a tribute to Peter, my husband’s grandfather,” Valentina said with a note of disappointment in her voice.
“I know, sweetheart! I’m sorry, but Vincent crashed his car, and poor Anthony is devastated. My little boy is all alone, and your brother is going to need help getting him from the hospital back home.
But tell your father–in–law I’m sorry, he knows how reckless Vincent can be.”
“That Vincent really needs to grow up! What if something serious had happened? Tell me, what would become of poor Anthony?” Valentina said, clearly worried.
“Well, I guess you and Marcus would adopt him,” her father replied casually, “You know how Anthony is obsessed with your husband. He looks up to him like a hero. Says he wants to be just like him when he grows up.”
“Dad! Anthony is not a puppy you can just offer up like that!” Valentina huffed.
“So you’d really leave Anthony all alone? The poor boy already got abandoned by his mother, who dumped him on Vincent! That irresponsible fool needs to grow up–he’s a father, for God’s sake!”
That’s not what I meant,” Valentina sighed. “But don’t talk about him like that. Anthony is a good kid, and with the right guidance, I know he’ll grow up to be a good man. My brother may be a bit… well, crazy, but I’m sure one day, he’ll get it together and be a good father. He just needs that one spark to push him to mature.”
Her father let out a deep sigh. “Ah, sweetheart, I hate worrying you with all this. But send my regards to the Bartz family. Tell them next time, I’ll host a proper dinner–one like we do back home, the real Valentian way.”
“Of course, Dad! Take care, and give Anthony and my idiot brother a big hug from me!”
“See you, my dear!”
“Take care, Dad!”
[Valeria, present day]
Anthony Moriarty tightened the knot on his tie, his expression hard as steel.
Today was important.
Today, after thirty years, his aunt would finally get justice.
The man who murdered her was in his hands, and Anthony would stop at nothing to make sure he paid for his crimes.
Fate wasn’t always fair, but he would move heaven and earth to clear his family’s name.
He would make sure the Bartz family got the justice they deserved.
Even if it meant punishing the son for the sins of the father.
“Daddy!”
A tiny voice broke through the storm in his mind.
Turning toward the door, Anthony’s entire demeanor softened as his five–year–old daughter ran toward him, arms outstretched.

Chapter 07/
“My little angel!” He scooped her up, setting her on his lap “How did you sleep, sweetheart?”
“I had a dream about you and Mommy!”
“Oh? And what did you dream, my little Valentina?”
“I dreamed about the beach! Daddy, when can we go? You’re never home anymore… Mommy and I miss you.”
Her tiny lips pouted, and Anthony felt a sharp pang of guilt
He had spent so much time chasing his goals, working for this exact moment.
But at what cost?
His wife had always supported him, but he knew he had been neglecting them.
Taking a deep breath, he ran a gentle hand through his daughter’s hair.
“Daddy has been very busy, but after today, we can start planning a family vacation. Anywhere you want. What do you think?
“Really?!” Valentina squealed, nearly jumping off his lap.
“Yes, sweetheart.”
“Mommy will be so happy!” She turned toward the doorway. “Mommy! Did you hear? Daddy SAID WE CAN GO ON VACATION!”
“What’s all this yelling about? What’s with the noise so early in the morning?” a beautiful woman asked as she stepped into the room.
