Chapter 0781
What you should do is find your friend. Go to him, talk to him. Do it before he ends up forgetting about you. He never meant to hurt you. You were like an older brother to him–the brother life never gave him with Maximus.
“Well… now Maximus, even though he’s not his biological brother, takes care of him. He has him. But Peter is getting lost in his memories, and it’s weighing on Maximus too. Close that chapter, Marcus. I know you’re going back to Hesperia, but before you leave, you should visit Peter. Say goodbye properly. No matter what happened, everything had a reason. Don’t waste this last chance.”
“I have to go, Vincent,” Marcus said, placing the flowers in one of the two vases by the plaque.
“Goodbye, Marcus! Take care!” Vincent said with a smile.
“I hope to see you again someday!” Marcus replied, extending his hand.
“No, Marcus, no,” Vincent said, shaking his head. “This is the last time we’ll see each other. Out of respect for your wife and family, it’s best that we don’t keep in touch.” He grasped Marcus’s hand firmly before pulling him into a strong embrace. “With this, we close a painful chapter of our lives.”
“But…” Marcus said, surprised.
“I already told you, Marcus Bartz. Hold your head high–you’re free now. Let go of the burden we represent. Move on with your life. Enjoy your family while you still can.”
“Thank you, Vincent… for everything,” Marcus said, feeling a lump in his throat.
“Goodbye, Marcus. Take care,” Vincent said, waving as a final farewell.
Marcus took one last look at the plaque covering the resting place of his wife and son before turning away. He left the cemetery, got into his SUV, and headed back to Westhaven. His wife was waiting for him, and he didn’t want to worry her any more than he already had.
As he drove home, memories flooded his mind–some good, others painful. He tried to picture Valentina’s face, but as always, he could only see her silhouette. He could remember her pregnant belly, where their firstborn, Peter, had once been. Life had been cruel to her—a woman who had done nothing but love, love deeply, and love a
Bartz.
Then came the memories of Peter—the young man in his twenties, with bandaged wrists the first time they met. The lonely boy who had once reminded Marcus of his own brother. That damn skinny kid with messy hair who once dreamed of driving a Lamborghini… and ended up owning four. The reckless guy who lived without a care, who moved at Marcus’s command, day and night.
That Peter was the one who had chosen to keep Marcus from sinking the way he had. And now, Marcus finally understood–he owed him everything. His life, his happiness, his wife, his children. Peter had made sure he could have a future, even if it meant losing his own.
-Life had been so unfair to his friend. As if it wasn’t enough that he had no real family, fate had thrown him into
the path of a bitter, resentful man. A man who took advantage of his loneliness, using him to do his dirty work in exchange for money and luxury.
Marcus couldn’t take it anymore. He pulled over, got out of the SUV, and threw up.
He had been a bastard.
Maximus had been right all along. He had used his brother. If Peter had become a ruthless killer, it was because of him.

Chapter 0781
Wiping his mouth, Marcus broke down. He sobbed uncontrollably.
Peter’s life was a miserable wreck, while Marcus had lived with the love of his life. He had the love of his daughter. He had three beautiful children with the woman who had once been his best friend’s wife.
Without thinking, he pulled out his phone and dialed Maximus’s number.
“Maximus?”
“Yeah, Marcus. What is it?”
“Peter… Where is he?”
