Once he saw the others leave, Alden found the car he had arranged, helped Serenity and Ethan inside, and secured them. Ethan had fallen asleep again. As Alden drove, his mind was racing–above all, he was anxious about what had happened to his father.
He called Maximus, who answered immediately.
“Alden! Where are you? Do you want me to send someone to get you?”
“No, Uncle… I’m already driving to the hospital. I should be there in about ten minutes.”
“Good, son. I’ll be waiting for you here. Where are the kids? How are my children?”
are
“Everyone’s fine. I sent them with Emma to your place–or well, where you’re staying now.”
“Thank you, Alden! Thank you for bringing my kids back safe and sound! I’ll let Marcus know right away so he can stop worrying–he’s with your father right now.”
Hearing that hit Alden like a punch to the chest. Serenity, overhearing the conversation, tensed up and instinctively placed her hands on her small baby bump.
“Uncle, before I go up to see my father, I need to talk to you about something important. I know this isn’t the best time, but I wasn’t expecting Marcus to be at the hospital.”
“I know… Everything has been surprising. They’ve been talking for a while now–even Mary is here. What do you need to talk about? It’s important that your father sees you
“Ethan is with me. He’s sleeping, but I’m bringing him. What I need to say isn’t something I can tell you over the phone–it has to be in person.”
“Alright, as soon as you get here, we’ll talk. How about we meet in the parking lot?”
“Yeah, we’ll see you there. I’ll let you know when I arrive.”
As soon as Alden ended the call, he turned to look at Serenity. Her expression was full of anxiety. She knew she had to tell her parents the truth, but she hadn’t expected it to be this soon. She had at least hoped for one more day before breaking the news.
“Serenity, I know this isn’t ideal, but I think Maximus should be the first to know. He’s your biological father, and I know he’ll understand. At the very least, I want someone on our side. Based on his reaction, I’ll know what to expect from everyone else, including my father. But we’re in this together, and we’ll face it together. Don’t stress –it’s not good for the baby,” Alden said, gently placing his hand over her small bump.
Serenity was speechless, her eyes filled with worry. She didn’t know what the right thing to do was, but deep down, she knew it was inevitable–her mother and her three fathers would eventually find out about the baby.
